Why so fast on Hawaii?

by M. Peter Amar » Tue, 03 Dec 1996 04:00:00

After patiently learning to be somewhat competitive at 100% I tried Hawaii at
Atlanta and Talladega this weekend to measure myself.  What's going on?  I'm
turning faster times in Hawaii than against 100% opponents and I'm getting
passed like I was at 80%.

I didn't really expect to win any races but I did expect to keep the other cars
in sight.  Do setups make that much of a difference?  Is there a "magic" line
that I'm missing?  Am I just a bum?

When you set your car up , instead of typing nascar -h type multi -h,
you will then be using the physics model that Hawaii uses. There is
quite a bit of difference.

Hope this helps,

1. The hawaii Multi.exe program uses different physics that accounts for your
    speed difference.

2. We're never as good as we think we are, as we find when playing actual people.
Not meant as a slam as I found myself in the same situation. Setup is crucial at
certain tracks, the standard setups just won't cut it against a lot of these guys
unless you're running iroc of course. So having knoweledge of what does what
helps. Practicing with the multi.exe offline helps also, and soon you become a
middle of the pack driver like me! :-)

I can start 39th at Taladega and finish first in a 5% race against the
AI cars. On Hawaii I can't even qualify in the top ten.

Hawaii multi physics are different....you run faster.  To practice
type multi or multi -h
You can only test but you'll see the difference in the handling.
