Lines of sight on ovals

Since many of us started racing on ovals using GPL, a problem has become
evident. I'll not call it a bug or a flaw as we are going way beyond the
original design brief for a sim that was intended to be run on road courses.
These care were never envisaged to be running side by side within feet of
each other, lap after lap. There is a massive blindspot when cornering side
by side with other cars.

Of course, all seasoned runners will shout about using side views and
momentary glimpses with F10. Others will also say use yer ears and hear the
thing. The problem is that not all people have stereo sound (or indeed use
more than 3 sounds anyway), and the other views are only a partial solution.
What we need is a pseudo spotter. I'm not talking about General Lee's
great-great grandson shouting "stay haah" or "yer front end is all tore
orff" as in the NASCAR sims. All we really need is some form of visual cue.
The Stock car type mirrors would be totally out of place. I was thinking
something along the lines of a discrete dashboard light or maybe a small red
dot appearing in the mirrors when a car is running in a blindspot and within
disaster striking proximity.

Before the purists in here start ranting and raving, please remember that I
am only talking about oval racing (Hardly realistic in context with GPL) and
a practical solution to a real issue.

I have no idea how hard this would be to implement - any thoughts from the
crackers/hackers in here?

I don't think the dots and stuff could be done...however, hacking with the
mirrors has been done before...so why not figure if you can make them
parabolic?? I.E. objects in mirror may be closer than they appear
