Rally2000 Is crap..

by Jeroe » Fri, 19 Nov 1999 04:00:00

THANK YOU! I'm glad to know this. I hoped it would be better, but I didn't
expect anything else, after the last two crappy incarnations of this
Europress game... I still can get mad when I read the Europress rant about
this game from a while back:
"As rally enthusiasts eagerly await the launch, it has been revealed that
Rally Championship will shock the market with a number of new features that
have never been seen before: Include multiple driving positions, fully
operational 3D dashboard instruments, a superb selection of top rally cars,
new crash, collision and damage routines and comprehensive mulit-player
options and it all adds up to the most exciting driving experience you can
have without getting into a car and doing the real thing."

Now can you tell me the NEW features??? WHAT new features?!? WELL??? Indeed,
I'm shocked, but not the way the want me too... I still don't know how
people can like this game. The physics and controls in the demo are so
incredible awful! Sometimes it seems that people (and game magazines) only
care about pretty pictures...

Can anybody double-check this ? What about David ?  Will this go down the
hype list like C:PR and other Nascar:non-Revolutionesque softwares ?

Tell us what you really feel David ! ;)

Maybe since he's in Australia he thought he needed to put in the CD upside
down.  :-)

Every review I've read so far by people who picked up a copy in Australia is
full of raves.

Here's a couple quick quotes from another forum. They don't sound anything
like Luke's.

"WOW! Dynamics are so much better than the demo."

"OK my initialy impressions are - AWESOME"

I can only comment on the demo ... but as far as the demo goes, I found
Rally2000 in every respect supersior to CMR. And I mean physics/dynamics too.
Rally2000 is no GPL on dirt (nowhere close) but as far as rally games go this
is by far the best. Name one thing that CMR does better. Don't say handling
because it is worse than Rally2000 in some ways and just as good (or bad ...
whatever you prefer) in other .. Personally I found CMR to hanle just like
Sega rally (ie. adcade game ... a nice arcade game but still an arcade game).
As far as rally games go, Rally2000 (even in demo more) was superior to
anything else out there. That's at least what I think :-)

David Mocnay

LOL !!!! I spitted coffee on my keyboard David ;-)

From what I see at the HighGear forum, people are giving it a good positive
mark.  I've checked it so the hype seems accurate, but I'll wait a little
and check out a full review here on r.a.s. or by somebody I can trust
(Randy, or any r.a.s veteran).

What about your review ? Im sure that like GPL it's not a perfect title no ?
;)

Hi,

Well, if you want SIM rally, you'll have to wait for "Rally Racing Simulation"
from Ubisoft made by the F1RS team ( marh 2000 ). I can' think that you
SIM people think that CMR is a simulation !!! No individual tires, no individual
springs. One tire physics. The rotation axis is on center of the car instead of
the center of the rear axle ! And vertical forces are so pity. The car fall
with constant speed !! Okey, it's fun to play, and more realist than RC2000
but it's not a sim.
IMHO, currently there's NO rally sim. And what i've seen of CMR2 at ECTS don't
make me think that CMR2 will be a sim. Just a more realistic arcade game.

And i don't works for UbiSoft, i'm working for there competitor.

Rally2000 is obviously NOT crap, and anybody who takes it back
because it ain't a dirt-road GPL is going to miss some great fun.  IMHO,
all this discussion about simulation quality and shortcomings we can
blame on David Kaemmer for coming up with GPL and setting a
technological benchmark.  Some "sims" are lots of fun, some are pretty
good driving simulations, but not one has come close to GPL for physical
realism.  RC2K I will buy ASAP based on all heard to date - and we will
all continue to wait impatiently for the ultimate armchair driving
experience under $59.95.......

But wasn't that what David was hyping on here for months? (better than GPL
game engine, gameplay and physics)
