I would love to race a drag car, motor bike, funny car or jet car in
simulation. Does anyone know of such a game or is one on the drawing
board.

GP2 junkie.

I too would like one and I say the same thing everytime someone brings
it up. But there are a lot of people on here who think that drag racing
is a "niche" market. I certainly don't see a sport where 100,000+ people
attend an event as being a niche, but it seems to me the people that
keep saying that have never been to a national drag racing event and
don't know what they're missing. To me, GP2 seems like a "niche" game,
especially here in America where F1 isn't even raced.

I TOTALLY agree!  I have been wishing for a good drag racing sim
(along the lines of Nascar or Indycar 2 graphics wise) for a long
time.  I hope Papyrus is listening!!!!!

True... I am another one interested in a Drag Racing simulation. There
is alot of variables that you have to contend with. I remember someone
posting, saying that it would not be anyfun just to run down the track
once and then head to the pits. But like in top fuel, there is clutch
setups, fuel mixtures. Heck, I would love to just experiment one time
and attempt to save a T/F blow over. It would be intersting and just
as much fun as Nascar or ICR2 (no GP2 here ;> )

Yeah, how about "....I'm Steve Evans... From Papyrus, this is NHRA
DRAAGGG RACING....(followed by awesome graphics of a pass by a couple
of top fuelers or funny cars.  Hello... Papy???

And Papyrus would say, "Who's Steve Evans?"...
It's just not an all out sport...yet. Talking with one of their reps a
couple months ago, they have no plans for a drag racing release. Then
again, they have a strict policy of not discussing about current or
future projects...

I'd kill for a Drag Racing game,
Quite a while ago I heard of a 50's Hot Rod game that was supposedly
half racing and half role-play.  You would look through the newpapers
and find a car, take it down to the local soda shop and meet people
and then go drag!
They could create a game that spanned the history of drag racing, from
the beginning to 300mph+ cars nowadays, with the player working his or
her way up. There are a lot more  elements that you could include
aside from just hitting the throttle.
This is a homemade American sport and I really believe that there
would be a big market for it. A ton of Nascar fans at least live in
areas where drag racing has been popular since the 50's.

Just gotta keep hoping

I heard that too.  I agree with you.  If you have ever actually drag
raced a car, you know that there is a LOT more to it than just hitting
the gas.  We can keep wishing....

The closest that I have now is NFS running at the desert course where
you can get a 1/4 mile time.  Oh well....

I've been kinda bored lately waiting for Nascar2 so I feel like taunting
drag racing fans.  Having a drag car is like owning a Power Mac, it has
this big engine and looks pretty nice, but you can't have any fun with
it and everybody else thinks your crazy.

You can get that game, plus a few other 'oldies but goodies' on those
Activision 2600 Action Pack games. It looks and performs like the
original did on the Atari, which may or may not be good. :)

I have been racing the big 3 sims for a little over a year (and GP2)
with a T2 and recently a P6 200, and I am just beginning to actually
feel the tracks.  I went to the NHRA Keystone Nationals last week and
started thinking about a drag sim again.  Seing the new track and the
slippery spots and how the drivers responded, I wonder what king of PC
setup would give you the kind of feedback you would need to actually
"drive" for 4 1/2 seconds.  I'm also not sure the AWE32 I am pumping
through my stereo system would get anywhere near the sound of a top fuel
run.  Drag racing is incredibly sophisticated and I wonder who could do
it justice.
