Make sure you don't have more than 30 tracks in your track folder!
That sounds like the problem I get when I convert to many tracks.

WHAT THE F@#$ IS WRONG!!!

by Matt » Fri, 29 Aug 1997 04:00:00

Hello all,

I'm really sorry for this but for some reason my nascar2 won't start
anymore. I always get the message "can't start screen" and so forth with
a bunch of words like grangular ='s fff numbers everything. What I did
was try to run my calendar that I made. Well, that didn't work so I kept
trying things to get the game to work. Finally I said F--k it and did a
complete re-install. Well after putting the patches back in and getting
my cars all set I unzipped the fantasy tracks again and hit yes on
everything when it asked if I wanted to overwrite. I then ran the
calendar Bat again. So I thought finally I can get the game going again.
WRONG!!!!!! I'm right back to where I started, with all those freaking
numbers and such. I see the papyrus logo then it goes crazy. I tried
putting the calendar that the calendar bat made into the nascar2
directory. Now I have no original calendar and I can't get the game to
start. I think this time before I do another re-install I'll take the
whole game off my computer. Then get the fantasy tracks again. It
started doing that last night, I have no idea what I did. All of a
sudden it started to do it. But before I give up on everything I thought
I might post and see what anyone has for me to try. Yes the tracks
unzipped under the tracks directory. Just in case I have to do a
complete re-install again, can I take the patches, fixes, special cars,
and the calendar I made, and put them in a seperate directory then
install the game, and then do eveything over again. I'll even get rid of
the fantasy tracks and get those from sierra's web site. I really don't
want to start over but i'm afraid i might have to. Thanks for any
help!!!!

% Sorry to reply to my own post:-) But what I'm going to try and do is
% send my calendar. This is the calendar that is in the Nascar2 directory.
% NOT my calendar. Well Here goes:

% Content-Disposition: inline; filename="Calendar.fan"

%  1  2 25 0 0 ROCKING Goodwrench_Service_400 Goodwrench_400
<snip>
% 29 11 17 0 0 BULLRUN Bullrun_Raceway Bullrun_Raceway
% 30 11 24 0 0 REDROCK Redrock_Raceway Redrock_raceway
% 31 12 99 0 0 XXXXXXXX

Things look fine.  However, do you have a file now in your NASCAR2
directory that is simply called CALENDAR?  I am pretty sure that you
need a file that is called CALENDAR for the program to run.  If all else
fails, copy the original calendar file from the CD and edit it in a pure
ascii editor (notepad if you got it).  Change the last line from:
29 12 99 0 0 XXXXXXXX

to:
31 12 99 0 0 XXXXXXXX

Then insert the following just before the last line:
29 11 17 0 0 BULLRUN Bullrun_Raceway Bullrun_Raceway
30 11 24 0 0 REDROCK Redrock_Raceway Redrock_raceway

Save it as with the file name "calendar" with no extenstion in your
NASCAR2 directory.
