GTR just got it

by Tim » Fri, 01 Apr 2005 06:11:40

I got my copy of GTR in the mail last nite, perfect
timing as the whip and kids are off to grandmas house.
I set my graphics options to full ,res 1600x1200 no aa.
My setup is AMD 64 3400 gig of ram 6800 gt.
My framerates while hotlapping ranged from the low 60s to
over a 100, looking good so far.

Next I tried a single race at Monza with 39 cars, starting
at the back of the pack with 20 cars visible  Chuga chuga,
starting frame rates were 15 jumping to the low 20s as
the field thinned out.

Time for some tweaking, The best playable res was 1024x768
with all the graphics option set med to low, this got me 40 fps at start
up to the 60s as the field thinned.

What's the point of my rant? Nothing really,I just enjoy
complain, although I am curious if others are experiencing
the same poor performance.I saw a couple of guy bragging on the
GTR forums of  much better performance with similar hardware,
typically you can take that with a grain of salt, these are the kind
of guys that use there system specs as there sig!
I will be mostly be racing on a closed LAN with 4 to 5 guys so
I was wondering if any one has any comments on performance in
that situation?

Turning off MoTec results in a significant jump in framerate.  If you
run a good lap, you can always save it and have MoTec do its analysis on
the replay.  So, it's not necessary to have it on all the time.

Turning off high resolution car livery made a big difference to me. It is
greyed out but ticked in the demo. Unchecking the box I have noticed the fps
back to the demo levels and no noticeable difference in car quality.

Before that I was frustrated not to get anywhere near the demo performance,
now it runs fine.

Cheers

probably not on his CPU. I run GTR on an athlon64 3400, and switching
off motec results in an fps increase of 2-3 fps. Not really worth it;
I saw a much bigger increase (6-10 fps) on my previous AthlonXP 2400+.
I see the biggest fps hit with many cars ONLINE, offlince races with
20 cars are ok (never less than 40 fps on an ati radeon 9800 pro).

cheers, uwe

OK, so yes you can't, I must admit I thought you couls analyse tehreplay
file, I suspect what you have to do is run the replay with the log analyser
turned on.

OK - how do I turn on the log analyser? I did a search on the simbin forum
and found no reference to it.

thx

I've tried the manual - the english one is very short and page 4 is just
about modes (arcade, etc) and the German one is a) in German and b) just a
list of key mappings. Even the GTR engineers manual has nothing about it on
page 4. Maybe you have a manual I don't?

You need to download a program called "MoTeC Beginner's Guide" which
contains a file called MoTeC Organizer (Version 1.3).  Unfortunately, I
don't recall where I got it from.  (Can anyone help out here?  Or try a
Google Search?).  You'll need to follow instructions in the Beginner's
Guide carefully to set things up correctly.  (It's a bit involved).  But
when MoTeC Organizer is set-up properly, you can list your replay laps
(even ones where MoTeC was not active) then choose one to load.  It then
automatically starts up MoTeC, and it analyzes your replay.

Great reading and very useful.
