*T2: Need a VERY quick spring fix!

by Lisa » Sat, 11 Oct 1997 04:00:00

I broke a brake spring tonight (Thursday), and this is the first time this
has happened to me.  I have like about 5 different series' races to run before
the weekend.
Does anyone have a VERY quick spring fix that will get me through the
weekend...???

The quickest and easiest is to put a heavy *** band around your foot and
the pedal. Not a long term fix though.

Had the same thing happen with my throttle pedal the other night.  Just
take the bottom off of the pedal base and attach a small spring from the
pedal shaft to one of the holes on the base plate.  Probably a small
spring about 2 to 3 inches long will do.  It might not feel the same, but
after a few minutes you'll get used to it, and at least it will return to
the zero position when you let off.
Took me about 5 minutes once I found a spring.
Hope this helps.

doh!!
take 2... What I meant to say was: Use a 12" bungee cord and attach the hooks
to the front of the base (making the cord go around the pedal).

I had the same problem, on both accelerator and brakes, and used a small
bungee cord. Works great. How you do it will depend on how your pedals
are anchored. I used a hefty eye***in the plank to which my pedals
are attached, and connected one end of the bungee there and the other
end at the small hole in the pedal shaft.
Good luck.

Try making a spring almost identical to the one that broke by taking a
clothes hanger and bending it around a socket.  It works great!!!  Not a
perment solution, but, will hold out for a month of intense use.

I have old combination locks super-glued to the backs of my pedals, which
use gravity to "upright" the pedals. Not the exact feel of the springs, but
a good temporary (or permanent, in my case) fix.
