GP2 or BTCC

Hi, I got the opportunity to buy me a copy of either Grand Prix 2 or the
BTCC game ToCa Touring Car Championship by Codemasters. I know they are
different kind of games, but which would be recommendable if I am looking
for a game that would be realistic, fun and not too difficult to learn? Is
ther much difference regarding graphics? If someone has a better
recommendation, let me know also, I am open to suggestions.

Yes get them both :-) In my experience GP2 is more difficult to learn since it
allows you to tweak the car setup (TOCA doesn't have any setup options).
To win at advanced level you need to get the setup right, which takes a
lot of patience - however it's relatively easy to win at rookie level
(with a bit of practice).

In my view TOCA strikes a good balance between sim and arcade, if you spin off
it's not necessarily the end of the race. I think the performance of the
computer
drivers is inhibited (even on hard level). Having said this, it's great fun to
drive, particularly trying to force your way through the pack. The driving model
is very realistic - you can almost feel the car shudder as you drive over the
rumble strips.

Regarding graphics, GP2 doesn't use a 3d card, but still looks pretty good in
SVGA.
TOCA looks great with a 3d card. I'm playing on a P133 (clocked to 150)
with a R3D. I found the frame rate unacceptable without the 3dfx card.

GP2 probably has more longevity because it's much harder to master. It's like a
hobby to me. TOCA IMO is a more ***ive game that you can just pick up and
play
straight away for an instant 'fix', and it's great fun.
From your requirements I would recommend that you buy TOCA.

Harald,

I havent used GP2 but I can heartily recommend TOCA as a fun game. It feels
realistic and the graphics and sound are excellent. My only gripes are that
the other drivers are a bit dim and that it eventally gets too easy to win
races
(but not to get pole position).

Hi,

Well, we're talking about 2 totally different games here. GP2 as a F1 car
simulator (although pretty old game) and an arcade touring car game that
is kinda new.

If you want pure fun and aren't interested in setting up the car, want to
win races quickly and you prefer candy graphics, then go for TOCA, else go
for GP2 (or F1RS or GPL if you could get hands on them and ofcourse if
you have a powerfull computer with some very good graphics card)

If you want realism, get gp2.  If you want fun, get both, or try Nascar 2,
it provides both.  However, toca seems pretty good if you got good
performance in windows.  Gp2 can really tax a system and it only runs in
dos, with no 3d support.  Toca and Nascar 2 are the easiest to learn.

You don't say what your system is like, but 3D card or not, I wouldn't hesitate
to pick up a copy of GP2. It can be made to drive as easy or as difficult as
you desire. There are dozens of web sites for downloading carsets, helmets,
tracks, setups, wheels, advertising, bitmaps, damn near anything you could want
to change or customize.

I'm using GP2 as a CART sim now with a 98 carset and many of the US road racing
circuits.
