HELP!   Anyone have any hint's or tips for getting a fast setup for
Telladega??  I'm using N1 and working with the keyboard for the
controls.  I'm having difficulties getting over the 190 mark.

Any help would be appreciated.

The only way I know to do this is to edit your taladega.txt file as
follows, which removes the restrictor plate = faster laps:

TNAME Talladega
PIT   413284 72689188 83123061 74288214 81978302 673675 27533001 40
SPDWY 0 42 45
LENGT 2660
LAPS  188 188
FNAME Talladega Superspeedway
CITYN Talladega, Alabama
COUNT USA
PACEA 2 84221431 -96339 -199484 0
QUAL  2 2
BLIMP -4881509 5479245
GFLAG 78614447
---snip---

The third line SPDWY is the key. Default setup is SPDWY 1 42 45
Change the 1 to a 0 and you've removed your restrictor plate. Laps are
faster now in excess of 200mph...

Believe me.  A joystick would do wonders for you speed problem.  Keyboard
controls make it tough for you to round the turns with any efficiency.  $30
will solve all your problems.

Well, before you even try setups, go spend the $80 or so on a Thrustmaster
Formula T2--it's not the best racing wheel out there, but it's perfectly
adequate, and it's got a better price than any of the other options.  That'll
probably pick you up 2-3 mph right there, once you've adjusted to it, because
you can take the corners much smoother.

Next, make sure Braking Help and Automatic Shifting are off.  Braking Help is
of NO value whatsoever at 'Dega (it doesn't even help avoid pit speed violations
like at other tracks), and oval-track shifting is really bonehead simple--
upshift while accelerating to avoid blowing up, run in high all the time, and
downshift only while slowing down to pit.  (You may have this done already; if
so, don't take it wrong, just that I was turning 191s with the keyboard when I
had it off...)

Finally, load the ACE12 setup (I assume you have version 1.2x of N1), stiffen
all four shocks to 100%, tweak the gearing and camber using test sessions as
described in the manual, and you should soon be turning laps in the 193-195
range easily.  Just be smooth smooth smooth and make the tri-oval as broad as
possible so you don't squeal the tires...
