your post finally touched the right or wrong nerve that inspires me to
write this. first
i would like to state that i currently own; nascar 3, gpl, f1-2000, nhra
drag racing, need for speed-high stakes, and lastly official formula one
racing. i have been reading this newsgroup daily for about 4 months and
get much enjoyment from the posts. I
feel like i know you regular posters very well. that stated, I would
like to ask some
questions of all of you. the only game currently on my HD is Of1R. some
background first. I am 33 and have never owned atari, nintendo, sega. or
sony and
the total dollar amount ive spent in arcades (excluding pinball) is
about 3 dollars. A
friend of mine was getting into nascar 3 and trying to convince me that
i would love it. I then saw a demo of OF1R for ten bucks and thinking
that i enjoy turning right
just as much as left, bought it. He lent me his T2 steering and pedals
that didnt fit
on his desk, so i went home and loaded it all up. lets just say that the
very next day
i bought the msswff wheel, and the day after that decided that sitting
at a desk in a desk chair wouldnt cut it. the next day i see the
HYPERSIMULATOR WEBSITE
and decide to build my own after seeing price. As you can clearly tell,
I was hooked.
this is all before i realized that the game supported internet racing.
So it was one week offline then on to mplayer. my heartrate during the
first race tripled and I then
never went back to racing cumputer cars. Then i find this newsgroup and
painfully
discover that I purchased one of the worst sims possible. TOO ARCADEY,
TOO
EASY, BAD PHYSICS. Well i dont see what the complaints are about. Its
great fun and i was the biggest skeptic you could find. The game is old
so maybe the
detailed reasons for this game sucking were posted before i started
reading, but could someone be specific like they are when flaming back
and forth about F1-2000? I wont even play the other games till my thirst
for OF1R is quenched. one problem
I have noted is that 90% of the mplayer matches are played in arcade
mode. This is done for 2 main reasons; most races are virtually
sprints-5-7 laps. Second if you leave the track the simulation mode
really penalizes too much too catch back up. in this format arcade mode
makes for closer racing and in the end, thats what is all about. what is
the problems with simulation mode?
things seem to be fairly realistic in sim mode. Sure in arcade some of
the turns can be taken a little faster than real life but
computer racing is not real life. As far as car physics go, unless your
using every possible driving aid to increase realism, ie.
force feedback, than some amount of compromise must be made. If you do
not use forcefeedback than how can you complain about a track
inaccuracy. if you're sitting at a desk and not in a***pit than the
small compromises should be less bothersome.
we should all have wheels and pedals, forcefeedback,***pits, and seats
that move. when that day comes, then the complaints about sim vs arcade
should be taken with a cube of salt, not a grain. Even GRAND PRIX
LEGENDS, with its superior physics is just an arcade game unless you
have all the above aids. finally the most rewarding thing I have gotten
from this ng is the
socialogical study of people and opinions around the world.
thanks for the time and place to say these things I've been thinking
about fot the last four months
