I have a quite ancient Mad Catz steering wheel (it says Analog True in the
bottom right corner, I assume that's the name of the type of wheel, but I'm not
certain) I bought about 3 years ago.  I just recently had to get my harddrive
replaced and I am in the process of reinstalling everything.  For some reason,
the wheel works perfectly fine in GPL, but absolutely refuses to calibrate in
N4.  I've tried both Optimum and DirectInput controller options and disable
Poll Without Interrupts, but it refuses to work.  I can't find any drivers for
the wheel at Mad Catz's website (they seem to act like they never even made
this wheel . . . ).  Any ideas, other than get a new wheel?  Anyone?

BTW, I am planning on getting a new wheel sometime soon.  Any suggestions on a
good wheel that's nice 'n' cheap?  :)

Okay, well, apparently it is called the "PUMA GT RACING WHEEL"  I managed to
get the drivers from madcatz.com after a LONG time searching, but it still
doesn't work.  :sigh:   Ideas?

Try to find the original style Logitech Wingman Formula Force, it's a great
wheel, especially for GPL (because it's Lotus steering wheel red).  I
believe the good ones were manufactured in China, but anyways you might
still be able to find one on the web for under $40 or $50.  If I wasn't
going to college and wasn't on a budget, I'd have an ACT Labs wheel with all
the goodies, but I guess I'll have to get educated first.  My birthday is
coming up though.......

Agree!

I have a (made in Taiwan) original style LWFF and with the exception
of the learning curve for the pedals (I can run 1:07s at the Glen with them
now) it has been an excellent wheel.

FWIW - it's now 3.5 years old, has never had spikes and feels/works as
sturdily as when I got it.  It hasn't been treated like a pointless ferrari
(read
garaged) or babied either - just a good quality build.  Force effects are
still
strong and the cable drive is smooth.  A second hand one of these is a good
option but being motorised, you would want to test it first.
