SEGA RALLY NOT GOOD

I recently checked out Sega Rally and found that i was not very satisfied
(not spelled correctly) with the game overall. I also tryed out RAC RALLY
CHAMPIONSHIP and found it a much better game. If you want the Rally
experienece choose RAC Rally

You must be joking. Whereas RAC has impressive graphics, sound, tracks
and everything else they sort of forgot the most important thing. The
handling. Rally is all about cornering, squeezing the last bit of grip
from the tires. Running the risk of stating the obvious this is done by
coordinating the use of the accellerator, the brakes, the wheel, the
momentum and the position on the road. In order to even begin to simulate
this the accelerator should create response according to the power of the car.
And the grip should be a function of the power, the road surface and
the angle of attack. None of these thing a modelled in RAC and the car
feels lame and unresponsive. At least Sega Rally and Screamer 2 have
some rally feel. They may have overdone it but it shure beats RAC
by a long way (IMHO).

Well I tried the Demo of Sega Rally and if the final versions hasnt got
a major overhaul, that
games a pig to play. The joystick is waaaaaay to sensitive and there
wasnt a sensitivity level
controller, so your left with outacontrol controls. No replay either is
pretty sour and theres
no option for steering wheel! Like I said this was just the demo, but
what I got (demo) was
a shame compared tho the arcade racer. It also has a very "Arcady" menu
system to it. Graphics
were exellent but the controls were so sensitive I trashed the demo
within 10 minutes!
Hope the final version is more like the real thing!

It works fine on my GP1 wheel, in fact, feels and responds very similar
to the arcade version. Fabulous. I also play the split-screen version
with keyboard. Also pretty fun except that the commands for menu
movement is pretty lousy. Can be edited though!

No replay either is

There is replay after every championship. Makes you look like the
fastest driver in the world though ;-)

As long as accln and brakes are on y-axis, you can caibrate in Win 95.
With TM products, use the adaptor.

Like I said this was just the demo, but

100% fun. To the idealists among you, I don't think that McRae's setup
is anything like this, but it really is fun. Not a sim at all, but a
real plus, especially in two player mode !!!

Excellent frame rates, once you can the CD after loading.

Always heard about the 'too sensitive' problem. But with a nice and stable
joystick, the control should not be difficult. From my experience with
Microsoft Sidewinder 3D, I can control it very well(Since it uses optical
tracking and the Win95 digital mode). I can imagine the problem with a
'normal' joystick or wheel using normal pots. Someone complains even
cannot run in a straigth line. It is the problem that Sega expect everyone
got a very stable and good quality joystick while this usually not the
case. But I am sure the joystick routine works. Yes, it should provide
options for sensitivity. But even in the arcade, you cannot set the
sensitivity, right?

Steering wheel basically is a joystick which moves by turning. Nothing big
difference.

The full version let you view replay after each race. The replay is really
like watching real rally.

The last thing I complain it that the graphics is not so good when
comparing with arcade. Even Daytona PC conversion was more graphically
similar to arcade. Luckily, the bonus track is the most beautiful track of
all. But I still insists that the handling feel is the best when compared
with RAC rally and Screamer 2.

I never tried the demo, but the retail version certainly responses well,
no worse than say, S2. I think that the GP1 has a certain degree of null
zone built in, but I may be wrong on that. The car defintely does NOT
twitch all over the place. Not rock stable, but it slides controllably
around, which I think is what makes the car feel so good.
