Can't get to Hawaii's scheduler

by Dan Wilk » Wed, 05 Jun 1996 04:00:00

I tried to get to Hawaii's race scheduler between 9:30 and 11:30 pdt on
Tuesday night.  It would try to go to the scheduler and then drop me
back to the main menu.  Anyone else have similar problems?

> DanI'm new to Hawaii, just the last 2 nights, but the same thing happened

last night to me.  I did 2 races.  After each one I was disconnected.  I
could then no longer get past the main menu when going to race
scheduler.Ed?

I have experienced this problem.
Last weekend.  Also Wednesday 6-5-96 in the early a.m.

What a waste of long distance.
You call, see the messages dated 6-2-96, no news about trouble,
you try to go to the race scheduler and it will not let
you in.  There is no error message that says too many people or
the server is down.  It can't be too many people, I tried at
3:00 am one time.

It is interesting that no-one from Papyrus has commented on this
condition.  Do they know about it?  Is there an explanation?

Any comments?

We have had some problems in the past few days with the scheduler.
We're working on it.  The problem is on our end. Sorry!

We have had some problems over the past few days with the scheduler
server.  I beleieve it was late Friday night, late Saturday night &
Tuesday night.

Things should be back to normal now.

Hello Ed, isn't the purpose of the "Message" file that gets downloaded
as soon as you connect to Hawaii to tell the users the latest news?
If you are having trouble with the scheduler, then why not update the
"message" or "news" file to tell the users that there are problems and
when it might be fixed (i.e. when they should try again). Just a
suggestion.  This would save your Beta testers some long distance
fees.

I wish it were that easy.  The "message of the day" is there to inform
people of the latest news, but we do not have the ability (yet) to
dynamically update it is something goes wrong.  Unfortunately, the
crashes occurred when nobody was at the data center (late at night) &
we couldn't correct for it immediately.  We are addressing that issue
now (a system online to consistantly monitor if systems are up) so we
can compensate much faster if something crashes.

However, you're right.  We don't want you wasting money to dial in &
hit a dead end.
