T2 Maintenance - Pentiometer

Once upon a time long long ago someone posted about the procedures for cleaning
the T2 pentiometer inside the steering hub. As my wheel is starting to get
jerky I need to do this, but I forget what sort of cleaning agent I should
use. Can any of you fellows recommend the best (and cheapest) way to go about
 this? Thanks in advance

Just use some ordinary electronics cleaning fluid! Most pots, except
those really expensive, usually decays. My computer speaker's volume
soon did this and after applying some fluid it works perfectly (and
smoother too). This celaning stuff costs about USD 5 (in Sweden) and
it lasts for the rest of your life!

While it ain't "cheap", go to your nearest Radio Shack and pick up a can
of their Tuner Cleaner (cat # 64-4315).  Open up the housing on your
wheel and using the small tube direct the spray to the insides of your
pot on the back of the wheel shaft.  I usually try to get it in through
the openings where the solder lugs are for the wires.  Spray enough so
that it starts to leak out and then work the wheel back and forth too
move the cleaner about and "scrub" the contacts inside.

First of all, don't buy that crappy Radio Crack shit. Err, sorry,
cleaner.
Although I made my own wheel you should be able to open up your T2 so
you can see the pot. Then just spray the cleaner liberally all over the
pot and into any small holes in the pot housing. Move the steering back
and forth a few times while doing this and then try it out on the N2
calibration screen. Should be steady. Note: some pots are sealed pretty
good and you may have to make a hole in it to get the cleaner inside,
and then to drain it back out.
Good luck!

I cleaned my T2 steering pot last weekend because i was having that
jumpy
steering problem too. It's actually fairly straightforward.

1) unscrew the top cover.
2) unscrew the front panel from the bottom.
3) bend back the little plastic clip that holds the steering pot in,
then
pull out the pot. well, ok, i used a couple of screwdrivers to lever
it
out because that clip was a bit of a pain to pull back.
4) bend back the four little metal clips that hold the pot together.
5) wipe down the carbon and metal ring contacts with a cloth or tissue
or
something, then resmear them with some kind of electrical lubricant.
I
just used the little tube of Tamiya "Switch Lubricant" from my radio
controlled car stuff. it probably would cost a couple of dollars for
a
   tube.
6) put it all back together.

and it should work really smoothly now:) much more fun to drive!

I cleaned my GP1 last weekend. I just opened the top cover and sprayed
lots of stuff called "Contact cleaner" straight into the pot through the
little holes in it. The wheel works great now!
