Im sorry to say guys, but with all the hex editors out there how can you
hold a serious GP2 league
thats legit?!! The bottom line is, without network or modem play,
sending in times and statistics on races
used under GP2 will and cannot be considered competitive because of
hacking. Give me heat, give me what you will, but just answer that ONE
question?!!

All I can do is expect that the individual who joins has some
integrity. It's obviously naive to expect that no one will cheat, but
those who do really won't know whether they are the best in the league or
not. So they just end up fooling themselves in the league competition, as
they usually do with every other aspect of their lives. At this point I
feel GP2 leagues are basically made to compare times, at the scheduled
race, in an organized fashion with as many other people as possible. Then
after maybe discuss their race strategy or the real F1 race with another
individual in the league. Everyone wants the fastest times granted, but
until a foolproof method to check times is developed you must enjoy the
leagues as they are.

        Maybe try a new league

Hopefully the poeple who join this league have some integrity.

It is pretty easy to tell if someone has hacked GP2 to cheat. Dave
Gymer's HOF2LAP program can be used to show what the BHP level used is.
If the replay has been hacked to contain a different value then the
hotlap won't run.

AFAIK it is effectively impossible to hack a GP2 hotlap or saved game to
cheat in that manner without being found out.

There are always other ways of cheating, but if people are really that
pathetic then that's their problem.

Cheers,
Richard

Hopefully, with all the hex editors and other "hacking" proggies out
there someone could actually
come up with a utility that detects or "shuts down" GP2s replay when
hacked files are evident.

As long as your having fun, thats all that really matters. Its just
harder to have fun when
you practice hour on end only to find out your times are beaten by
dweebs that really havent
mastered how to run the "fast" line and dont have anything else better
to do than start chopping up the original files.

Richard's right, there are always other ways to cheat. But some of us don't
want to just give up and not bother, and if it means including the use of
editors in the rules, to help guarantee fairness, then I don't see the
problem. It may not be what everyone wants, but check out my new GP2 league
at
http://homepages.enterprise.net/kmw/gp2menu.html
It allows the use of editors, PROVIDED the car weight is not changed.
Yes, this does mean that the times are not realistic, but it only knocks a
few seconds off a lap, and if the car weight is tampered with to gain more
speed, the replays will not work, and so can be disallowed.
This has got to be better than blindly and naively hoping that everyone in
a 'straight' league plays fair.

I agree with what you've said BUT the league is all about having fun,
it's not SERIOUS.  Yeah it's competitive and some people will cheat but
they should feel quilty about that.  There's no prize for winning just
satisfaction and if someone cheats how can they feel satisfied that they
are the best driver??

If you take a look at the GP2 Racing League web site and ng it's all
about the fun the drivers have.
