I am getting a new computer and this is what they want to sell..any
advice-mainly on video card...

950mhz AMD Thunderbird..7200 rpm HD...TNT64 AGP videeo w/32mgb...

Mainly play games at home...no net play...

ANY advice appreciated......................................

Upgrading the chip to a 1.2/1.4 will not cost much extra. Suggest you look
at a GeForce 2 - big price diference between the top & bottom of the range
(32Mb SDRAM MX & 64Mb DDR GTS) so there is plenty to choose from!

Don't get that video card! That card is a relic by computer standards. If
you are looking for cheap go with a Geforce MX with the 5.5ns ram or if you
want performance go with a Geforce2 Ultra. A geforce 3 would be overkill on
a 950mhz CPU. Of course you could always go for morre there as well. My
file and print server at home is a 950 AMD with a TNT2 Ultra video card.

the actual card is TNT2-M64...32mgb ram on the card...any better?

NO!
3 or 4 generations old. You would be hamstrung the moment you turned on
your box. Unless Emailing is your main focus, then it is acceptable. A
newer version of the GeForce 2 would be more in line with modern sims.
It will work, but the limitations in bigger graphic hogs like N4 would
become readily apparent.

Yep, dump the TNT m64 card, not worth spitting on. If you need to stay
cheap, get a GF2 MX 32mb card. If you want a bit more, get a GF2
pro/ultra DDR card, 32mb or 64.

If money's tight, I'd say get a GF2 Pro with only 32mb RAM, will be a
LOT faster than an MX with 64mb RAM. Probly twice the speed.

ended up with geforce 128 (or 1280?) with 32 meg ram...256 meg ram and 950
amd..better?

Do you mean a Geforce 256?

Geforce2's are generally a fair bit quicker
