Champ Car racer Dario Franchitti has been taken to hospital following an
accident at Homestead's 1.5 mile oval.
The Team Kool Green Driver hit the Turn Three wall almost head on 15
minutes from the end of the first day's testing at Spring Training.
The Scot was awake and and alert when the CART saftery team arrived at
the scene, according to CART Director of Medical Affairs Steve Olvey.
Following x-ray examintions at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Olvey added
that Franchitti had sustained non-displaced fractures of the left hip
and pelvis, and multiple small contusions of the brain.
He said no surgery would be required for any of the injuries, but the
injured racer would remains in hospital for a few days.
Franchitti, second in the 1999 championship, was 14th fastest at the
time of the crash.
He had just started a run on fresh tyres.
