Does GPL have tyre wear, of just high tyre temperatures?
Sometimes if I'm pushing hard in a race the tyre grip seems to go off,
but does the grip come back if you drive smoothly for a few laps?
I'm not sure, but I think it is just high temperature that causes loss of
grip, not actual wear....? Anyone else noticed grip coming back again?

You are correct.  GPL doesn't model tire wear.  The tires used on F1 in that
era didn't wear out as quickly as modern racing tires.

Yes if you drive slowly and smoothly without screeching and sliding the
tires for a few laps, the temps will come down and your grip will come back
to you.

You don't have to worry about tyre wear.
Tyres where so hard those days they could last for 3 race weekends!

About your grip problems... It's most likely to be a tyre tempreature
thing... When tyres get hot the air inside the tyre expands making the
tyre harder (Less grip more top-speed). When a tyre cools down
the air inside the tyre becomes less (more grip less top speed).

GPL - tyre wear?

That could explain why near the end of "long" race
at Monza my Eagle began to pull to the right on
hard braking at the end of the back stretch.  I
must have heated up the left side tires vs. the
right side.   It was a condition that devloped
over time.

I don't think it is the fact that the tires expand and contract when you
heat them up more, it is more along the lines of...

you get the tires so hot that the *** on them starts to get greasy, there
is a temperature where the tires run the best and when you go above that,
the tires start to get more slimy than sticky so you loose grip, when you
back off and let them cool down, the grip comes back.

I thought as much..... thanks for the confirmation!
It seems I'll have to try to be more consistently smooth in my
race laps!

cheers from SpeedFreek....

GPL - tyre wear?

Hi !

Not really, you just back off for 0.5sec a lap maybe.
I had this happening few days back in an online race.
I was leading the pack and started loosing the rear
grip which made driving the Glen a nightmare (I have
overcooked T4 few times, went sideways thorugh it
thus causing the rears to heat up too much). I backed
off, did some 1:05's and after 3 laps I could start pushing
again :o)

Don't you just loooove this sim, eh ? :o)
