ICR2 has a great physical driving model that will take a while to
master especially the road courses but you will also learn quite a
bit  about  car setups , driving lines, braking  etc.

The following opinion is brought to you by <insert favorite
product here>...

Realistic...in physics?...Carey Kreiger makes an coin-op unit
that IMHO nothing's come close - yet...except the $7500 base
price (goes up to $25,000 for a super-system - yikes!).

Realistic...in graphics?...Although a bit on the "bright-side",
F1RS looks great.

Realistic...in gameplay?...Except for the lack of red flags and
single-file restarts, N2 has all the proper rules AFAIK.

The future is Grand Prix Legends, however.  This combines the
above listed items in a fluid *** experience that (in Papy's
own words) raises the bar in simulations...IMHO, they nailed it
right on the head.  Release date...soon.

Cheers!

Marc

 Tim,
That's a no-brainer. The Grand Prix Legends demo is easily the most
realistic. The finished sim should be mind-blowing! All the best, Mike

I think most people are trying to find out because it's not out yet !! ;-)
.  Actually, it's Grand Prix Legends by Sierra Sports/Papyrus Design Group.
It simulates the 1967 Formula 1 era.

You can't call this games anymore. It's reality recreation.

But, if you can't wait that long (around 1month), I would say the best
realistic simulator doesn't exist. Each of them have some flaws and also
some great additions.

Nascar Racing 2 you have the NROS, witch is unique. Racing against 24humans
can't be beat than ANYTHING else.

IndyCar Racing 2 is still a blast after almost 3years. Incredible sense of
speed, great physics, good AI, excellent gameplay !

F1RS is the most recent Formula 1 simulator. It's great, all good things,
but go and buy Grand Prix 2 also if you have the money.

Finally, there is also the 2 Drag simulators. They are pretty good, very
realistic (NHRA Drag Racing and Burnout).

The rest are still all good sims (Im talking SODA, N1, C:PR,.TOCA, etc..)
but I can't say and most of the people here will agree that they should
qualify as "most realistic driving simulator".

Seriously, I remember a show on Television that was about Formula1 and they
showed to the television the racing simulator Williams used for setup,
testing, etc...

It was from last year. Actually it's a company who sells the product to
racing teams around the world.  Something around 30000$ US   AFAIK.

They use this for intensive telemetry, with tracks recreated to the inch,
also for Aerodynamics (who needs Wind Tunnels now !).  It was just
incredible the details of it. No eye-candy and track graphics. You are
talking about pure calculations and extreme detailed racing physics.

I would give anything for this, but the only problem is that it's not really
something where you sit and drive. It's the actual racing telemetry from the
drivers at real life tracks, recorded and applied to the simulator.

It's like asking who is the fastest driver in the world. Everybody has their own
favourite, which I actually think is a good thing :o).

Driving my Audi A4 1.8T (with the ECU "overclocked" to 217HP) at an SCCA
Solo II Autocross!

So far I have gotten:
1 - 1st place
1 - 2nd place
1 - 3rd place

And I am still learning the car. Last Saturday night here in SoCal, we
had an event on a real road course - that was AWESOME!
