OK, I know the on-topic police will cane me for this one but...

I have to use Outlook for a new job but want to know how to get it to
save attachments to disk automatically. Clicking on every attachment
to save it could drive me insane in record time. Searched long and
hard but for the life of me I can't figure this one out. Anyone?

I don't think Outlook has this option - I also have been searching for
a long time for this option.. and at work I easily get 20-30
attachments each day :(

You sure you want MS Outlook to do ANYTHING automatic?  Sounds like a good way
to accidentally get infected by a virus...

If you know Visual Basic you could write a little script to loop through all
the notes in your Inbox and save the attachment to disk. I don't think
there's any built-in function in Outlook that does this.

You'd only be at risk of getting a virus if you automatically RAN each
attachment, which would be insane.

Contrary to the naysayers (Eldred), I've used Outlook since it came out and
I've never got (or spread) a virus. You just have to practice safe email.

Rafe and Andre...

Not automatic, but there's no need to click on the attachments. In Outlook
2000, you have a couple of options.

Option 1:

From the main menu:

File | Save Attachments

Option 2:

From the document window menu, if you've opened the document with the
attachment in its own window:

File | Save Attachments...

This option is unique in that it will allow you to specify the target
directory for multiple attachments.

Yes and no. You can practice safe mail for 99% of virus email, but the
latest one exploits a vulnerability in Outlook. The attachment gets
executed automatically and sends itself off to every contact you have
(even from web pages you have viewed). ***.

This could only happen (I hope) if you actually open or view the email. I
don't use the preview pane and automatically delete spam and email from
unknown senders. Admittedly if a note from somebody I knew (with a subject
that wasn't "Good Times" or some such) could be opened and give me a virus.
So far (touch wood) it hasn't happened.

I prefer using a 3 pane viewer with emails, and I wouldn't dream of
not using it simply for the "privelege" of using Outlook personally.
So I've always used email alternatives.

Of course, now that I'm forced into Outlook I can see how easy it is
to get caught by such things. Why do people bother developing all this
virus/trojan shit anyway?

Because M$ usually won't acknowledge/fix such glaring holes in their
software until things like this happen.  Their policy is "security
through obscurity".  Problem is, this policy doesn't hurt anyone but the
newbie computer user who doesn't have a clue how his machine operates.

Too much time on their hands... :(
