no races found - help

by Kosm » Sun, 12 May 2002 13:49:18

I should have asked sooner, because now I'm desperate.  I don't want to miss
the RASCAR race.  Been looking forward to going to Kansas all week.

For the last three days now I've been unable to see any races on sierra.
I'm patched, I can connect, my ratings show up, I can see others and chat in
the lobby, but no races ever show up.  The upper screen displays "No Races
Found".

I've installed and re-installed.  I've selected the option to check for
other ways to connect.  I've tried different combinations of IP address
where it allows you to select between the two.  All other internet fuctions
seem to be working fine.  I've left the game up for over 30 minutes on
several different occasions, but still no races appear.

Thanks for any insight

This is probably a stupid suggestion, but did you hit the "refresh" button?
Of course the races should show without hitting it .

Thanks Dave....that's not a stupid suggestion.
The refresh button is grayed out, and thus ineffective.

Just a shot in the dark here, but if you are running a NoCD exe this could
happen.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I am using the CD.  I've never even tried the
NoCD.exe

I'm just speculating here, but what if somebody banned my key for some
reason.  Is this the indication I would have?

Kosmo,

I think if you'd have gotten banned, you wouldn't have access to Sierra.com
at all, and I also think you would have received some sort of information,
either by email or at login time. They couldn't just ban you without ever
letting you know.

You say you've reinstalled so I assume you have all the ini files in default
state?

I would think so as well Achim.

After the reinstall, I've left everything in a default state.  Haven't even
set my driver up yet.

Could my problem be indicative of a bad modem, or poor ISP?

Are you on a regular modem connection or a broadband connection?  I use a
regular 56k modem now (no broadband in my area) and I have trouble seeing
the race servers thru sierra.  If I'm connected to a race my connection is
fine, it's just that seeing the servers thru sierra can be troublesome.
Couple things to check, and try.  First try connecting to sierra at a very
low usage time, like mornings or early afternoon, I could see races then.  I
now use a program called modemmax, which seemed to help me out some.  Dont
have a link but should come up on google if you look.  The bad part is that
for a smooth connection when racing you want data compression and error
correction off, however if you turn these off, you'll never see any races
thru sierra, so you have to enable them just to race, but this causes you to
lose some connection quality once connected to the servers.  For me the
problem seems to a bandwidth issue with sierra at peek hours.  Hope this
helps.

You said earlier 'all other Internet functions work fine' or something to
that effect. If that referred to other Internet applications like downloads
website viewing etc., then I'd say no, your connection is probably fine.

Are you perhaps behind a firewall which prevents N2002 from using the ports
it uses to display the racelist? Or are you perhaps using a proxy which
could cause this effect?
