DALE EARNHARDT JR. JOINS THE EA SPORTS FAMILY OF COVER ATHLETES ON NASCAR
THUNDER 2003

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.- September 4, 2002-NASCAR? superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr.
of DEI Racing will become the official cover athlete for the EA SPORTST
franchise NASCAR ThunderT 2003. Dale Jr. also contributed to the development
of the game and his likeness will appear on all NASCAR Thunder 2003
packaging and merchandising.

"I've been a long time fan EA games, so to be on the cover of the NASCAR
Thunder 2003 is quite a thrill for me," commented Dale Earnhardt Jr. "NASCAR
Thunder helped me win the EA Sports 500 in Talladega this year and my first
season on the circuit I would prepare for the upcoming event by racing my EA
game over and over. NASCAR Thunder gives you the true experience and puts
you 'in the game.'"

1998, he was considered "the future of NASCAR." Dale is in the midst of his

The 2001 season marked his first top-10 points finish in NASCAR Winston Cup
Series racing with the No. 8 team, while adding three victories and
multi-million dollars in winnings to his brief but impressive racing resume.
This included his win at the EA SPORTS 500 at Talladega Superspeedway? on
October 21, 2001.

"Dale Jr. embodies the spirit and competitive edge that EA SPORTS captures
in our NASCAR Thunder video games," said Ed Martin, Director of NASCAR video
game production, Electronic Arts. "His contribution to the product has been
invaluable, giving us design feedback and ideas on improving features and
gameplay, we couldn't have a better driver grace the cover of NASCAR Thunder
2003."

This has made the shine rub off a little we know it was N3-4
(+Heat)he raced with and we have seen his setup at home on MTV Cribs.
The only time he's been shown with Thunder is during a rain delay
racing B.P with a gamepad.
I will rub it a bit if he is shown to have been part of the feedback
team for the PC version (and the PC version lives up to it's hype
{hoping beyond hope})

How much better do you expect it to be than nascar 2002? Its never going to
be leaps and bounds over it, not like in the old days of nascar 1 & 2.
Personally i think Papyrus has proved they can make great nascar games, but
do they really need to make another one? (I think that 6 or 7 versions is
enough). I think a different type of racing game is in call, not a F1, Cart,
Sports cars or anything like that... something new. LFS is touching in that
area, thats one of the reasons why its a blast

Well - does that matter?  Nascar Thunder is nothing to do with Papyrus. It's
an EA product.

Nascar 2003, however - is the Papy product due for Febrary.

I look at it this way...

If EA assembles the RIGHT people from the industry, and develops the RIGHT
product.....

Who cares?

What's important is what's on the CD we plug into our computers.

If EA can do a better job than Papyrus, then so be it.  That, of course, is
yet to be seen :)

Is it news that racing drivers will endorse any product that puts cash
in their pocket?

I mean, he already sold out to Budweiser, and don't forget that great
Interact V3 wheel with his endor***t on it (one of the cheapest,
crappiest controllers ever made by a company that isn't Saitek).

Well he "sold out" to Budwiser because they are FUNDING HIS FRIGGING
RACE TEAM to a cost of around $15mil per year
As to the wheel I have no idea but if I was able to talk to his
sister (who handles the marketing for Sr & DEI) I would sit her down
and beg her to market quality over quantity.

I'd love to see a "Trans-Am Legends" myself.  Camaros, Mustangs, Challangers
kinda thing.

"MadDAWG"

The uspits.com has a patch/mod for Nascar Legends that resembles the Trans
Am cars of the 70's.  And Nascar Heat has a mod for the same time period :

It will not be a SIM, it will be a Racing GAME. EA has yet to get it right.
Plus the cheesy look their graphics have doesn't help.

I take it the heat mod is a work in progress. I didn't see anything other
than screen shots on that page.

Yeah...I guess I should have mentioned that!  :)  I will add though that
Ced Collins has just released his GTP mod.  Endurance Prototypes from the
Group C era...Porche 962's, Silk Cut and Castrol Jags, the Nissan and Toyota
juggernauts.  I just ran a recon lap at Sebring and just missed 250mph on
the backstraight with the default setup.

he'll be looking for drivers for an upcomming GTP league.
