upgrading - bit of advice

Currently run GPL, RC2000 SCGT and Revolt
with an original Logitech LWFF
(amongst some non-racing stuff like Age of Empires2)

See loads of complaints on here about newer operating
systems messing things up. (XP, ME,.2000 etc)

anywho care to recommend a platform that will run
the above, or would it be best to load Win98se back
onto the new system?

Thanks

I opted for W98SE on my new system (T-bird 1.3/266-GF3-LWFF) and haven't
been sorry. It's lightning quick, everything worked the first time (GPL, N4,
F1 2001) including latest drivers, and have yet to see a blue screen...

"Every OS sucks".

I think most of the problems gamers have with the newer Windows OS's
have to do with hardware compatibility.  Get a list of all the
components you are going to use in your system (don't forget mobo and
chipset) and do a google search for potential problems.  Check out the
product manufacturers websites for FAQs and forums.  Usually these are
the first place to look for reports of widespread problems.

The drivers for your components need to be written for whatever OS you
are going to use.

Some older games ***out on newer OS's, or even ***on newer
hardware drivers, but I don't know anything specific about any of the
games you mention.

I still use Win98SE, but just because I am cheap, and because I like
to play games more than spend time futzing around with a new OS.
Also, there were no XP drivers for my Herc. Game Theater XP when I
built the system.

good luck,
Gerald Moore
