Serving a Stop and Go Before Service

Serving a Stop and Go Before Service

by Dean William » Tue, 29 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I raced online at Talladega, and I was running 2nd.  I didn't want to pit
until the last minute in case a caution came out.  So I pitted the lap
before the spotter/crew cheif said "Come in this time"  In the heat of the
moment, trying to gain some time by having a good pit stop, I came in too
hot and got caught for speeding in the pits.  I knew I was going to have to
serve a black flag.  But I DIDN'T expect what happened next.  I got the stop
and go BEFORE I got feul.  Luckily I did have enough fuel to make it around
one more time, but that's ALL I had.

I should have got fuel and tires, and THEN got the stop and go after my pit
service.  On the NEXT lap.  NOT the first one.  If I had waited until the
next lap.  That would have been it.  I would have been out of the running,
because I would have run out of feul.

I'm not going to call this a bug, and I'm willing to accept that this
FUNCTIONS AS PROGRAMMED, but it should be fixed.  Does anyone know if
there's any intention of fixing this?

I guess you sorta have a point....

Current NASCAR rules would have given you a time penalty once you stopped
and completed service (i.e. once serviced they hold you in your stall for
the required penalty time).  I think it's 10-15 seconds.  But this is only
if you are caught speeding during pit in.  If you are caught speeding during
pit out, you then have to do another stop (not sure if it's timed or a stop
and go).
