If graphics are indeed the major resource hog when it comes to 3d games-then
why does my system run NH beautifully with almost all graphics on high yet
N4 won't give me 7fps with all graphics at medium?

This is assuming that you agree that N4 graphics are still not as good as
NH...which I do...and some others on RAS as well-although obviously I
haven't viewed N4 in 1024x768 either!

What a conundrum!

IMHO, I believe the NASCAR 4 physics engine is alot more taxing on the
system then NASCAR Heats.

Hmm.. have you tried NH after you played N4? Is there really that much
difference? They both feel 'different' but I still wonder why NH runs
so unbelievable much smoother on my system than N4..

Well, I am just the opposite, I think N4's graphics look much more realistic
than Heat's.
What's your system specs?

I didn't say Heat was better then NASCAR 4, I simply said the N4
physics engine a la GPL seems more processor intensive then Heats.

When I watch a replay in N4 compared with Heat, the cars seem to move
in a more realistic manner, akin to watching TV. Heat seems more
canned, you ever see a car in Heat when it flips on two wheels. The
physics engine is designed to flip the car back onto 4 wheels, it
looks very strange, this is glaringly obvious in the replays.

Obviously this is all subjective, I prefer NASCAR 4.

P-III 450 ASUS P3BF MOBO V3-3000 nothing oc'd. But Something is definitely
wrong here-even when I turn down all graphics and still system
freezes...already put in newest drivers....tried o'cing and that don't help-
I just wish some people would not downplay other's major problems running
this game.

You should not be getting constant freezes, that suggests a problem
somewhere. I know, it's annoying as hell, I've been there before. Granted,
you would have to really turn some detail down, but it should not be
freezing up on you like that.

We have allmost the same system, PIII500 V3 here. This system is
really too slow for N4.. even in 640 resolution, all details down, I
get 20fps at best, but that drops heavily when a minor accident
happens in front of me. I don't know why your system freezes though,
N4 doesn't on my system..

Well it appears I've discovered the freeze up problem- I turned off APM
(Advanced power Management) in CMOS and voila! I'm playing now with
everything around 25-50% getting 15 to 20 FPS. Now I think that if I oc'd
MOBO and dropped in ge Ultra this game could really begin to rock...

APM can cause alot of problems on some machines.

Andre, I'm getting 30 - 40 fps at 640 X 480 on a celeron 466 (OC to 525)
with a V3 3000. I'd expect you should be getting more than 20 on a P3 500

Weird... I was even positive when I mentioned 20fps, it's even lower
most of the time. Oh well, I ordered a new computer, it should arrive
today, that seemed the easiest way to get a little fps boost in N4 :)
