Thanks, you beat me to posting yourself. The article does put things into
perspective.

From the article a quote by Greg Moore just two days before the race:

"The cars are as safe as they can be," the 24-year-old Canadian driver said.
"It's just that you'll never be able to make race cars completely safe.
Things happen at speed."

Racing drivers are aware of the risks when they step into the car, they
accept those risks as part of the sport they love. Greg Moore was no
different.

Not one of the drivers wish to take unnecessary risks, but neither to they
wish to compromise the thrill and speed of motorsport either.

There have been 3 deaths of drivers in Cart in the last 16 years (I
think...please correct me if I am am wrong)  That to me is an exemplary
safety record for a sport with such inherent risks. Fate has dealt us two
death this year, which must of course make us reassess safety levels, and
correct  them if necessary, but equally every accident must be considered
separately and objectively and without a knee jerk reaction.

It is always a terrible thing to see such great men die and upsets me as
much as anyone. However all I ask is that you consider the drivers wishes
before you make judgements that will affect the sport.

The risks will always be part of motorsport. Surely it is the choice of the
driver to decide on what level of risk is acceptable?

He was talking about the cars, but even if asked about the tracks he
wouldn't
talk about safety issues in an interview. That's what the drivers do
behind
closed doors with track owners and CART.

That's one way you can say it... You can also say:
3 deaths in the past 3 years

or

2 deaths in the past 2 months

From my point of view nothing can be done to make a car
hold that type of crashes, Ive seen the three recent
fatalities with detail even Krosnoff dead at toronto when
his car flew into a fence and splitted in two at 170Mph, or
Gonzalos car that opened the tire barrier flipped the car
on the air and landed his head on to a rock with the car
upside down.

This is just bad luck, we all just have to send our
thoughts to their families and go on with our lives,
because tomorrow could be our time to go.

What Im sure is that these could be the most beautiful and
moving words Ive heard from a father who loved his racing
son.

''I don't know if there is a heaven. But if there is one,
he is there, probably on the pole.'' (rics, greg father)
