F1GP2 March '96 NOT TRUE!!!!

by W. van der Dei » Wed, 22 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

I've asked Microprose about the delay of F1GP and the argument with
Geoff. Here's what they said:

<< QUOTE >>
Hello,

No, this is not true.  I do not where this first appeared, but it is
complete fabrication.  The game is not out because they are reworking
some
art, and Geoff is not completely satisfied with the gameplay yet.
Once
that occurs, the game will be released.

Regards,
Tim

I hope support won't be mad at me for posting this in the newsgroup
(but I don't think so).

Bye,
Wilfred

Something doesn't ring quite true. Missing the Christmas season is
a massive loss. MP is throwing it away because
"Geoff is not completely satisfied with the gameplay yet" ?!!
Does that make sense to everyone?

If it was merely a matter of a bit of art and a tweak of the gameplay,
that could be delivered through some periodic update program. It shouldn't
stop the initial release.

On another matter, I downloaded the ICR2 demo and tried it.
I am left with the impression that the original World Circuit looks better
than the SVGA mode of ICR2. Anyone else feel that way? On the other hand,
I suspect that ICR2's AI must be better (you can't get much worse that
WC's brain dead take the racing line at any cost AI).

NO! WC looks are definetely outdated. There is no detail or so at the side of
the track. No sponsornames, no grasdetail, etc., etc..  It was a great game at
the time but I stopped playing it 2 years ago for reasons you mention her
below!
AI in Nascar and ICR is MUCH better!

Oh boy, I hope you are right on this one. Because if you arent I must immediately start to
save for a 150 Mhz Pentium with a 4 Mb Matrox Millenium and the needed 32 Meg:s of memory.

Maybe they are turning the code into 32 bit and then release it for Pentium pro.(just kidding,
hopefully)

Come on get real can you really compare ICR2 to a game that was written so many years ago for a 286 with 1 meg RAM. In my opinion F1GP is still the best racing sim around and I would rather wait until Geoff is fully happy before it is released. After all we don't want another Elite First Encounters do we!

If I want to admire scenery, I'm going for a walk outside.
If I want to play a computer game, the last thing I want is some irrelevant
gunk slowing down the gameplay.

So, what's the AI like in F1GP2? You've played it yet?

I too was a huge fan of F1GP WC and am waiting with baited breath for the
release of the sequel. Do you know where a demo is available?

then get rid of your 286 SX and upgrade to a P133! :-)

Unfortunately not!  But I rather wait for another year and that GP2 will be
THE definitive racing sim than that it will be rushreleased before Christmas
and it will be a disappointment! For the time being ICR2 is FANTASTIC!( I mean
the demo)

Cheers

Part of driving a race car is the scenery though; its always there, and the
driver must make sure to not get distracted by it.  Besides, for realism,
some tracks are so great because of their settings (ie, Road America).

TP>>AI in Nascar and ICR is MUCH better!

TP>So, what's the AI like in F1GP2? You've played it yet?

Actually, ICR, ICR2, and NASCAR have better AI.  Heck, Stunts has better AI
than F1GP2 because its not out!  It has no AI yet!!!!!
