N4 multiplayer -- can't select computer opponents

by Morton Chalo » Mon, 12 Nov 2001 06:22:29

I set up NASCAR 4 on my two home LAN PCs. Selected Multiplayer and
hosted from one PC. But when I checked the "Computer Opponents" box,
the checkmark disappears immediately. So I can't select Computer
Opponents (and so the sub-options remain grayed out). So my buddy and
I had a rather... quiet race.

Both PCs are using version 4.1.3.0.6
Both PCs are using cars supplied on the CD

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, please?

As a separate question, I downloaded the Winston Cup 2001 cars but
none of them appear as selectable as Multiplayer cars -- I'm guessing
that there is a flag in the car file somewhere?

Thanks

You have to set the number "accept players" on the multiplayer screen to
less than 42.

N4 multiplayer -- can't select computer opponents

First, are you using the dedicated server code on the host PC
If not try using it instead of starting multiplayer (read n4server.txt) if
that PC is not going to have a driver
Youll learn a lot more about hosting races
In any case check these settings in your player.ini files...

[dedicated server] or [multiplayer host]
UseAIOption=0
Set to 1

[ip0]
max_players=42
You can only have a total of 42 drivers (real drivers+AI)
So change this setting to just 2 and you can run up to 40 AI

I had this problem when setting up servers but not sure if this was the fix
I do know you cant toggle the AI opponents on/off unless you are on that PC,
only the #of AI
If this dont work let me know
