I had a Thrustmaster GP1 wheel that was doing this also. I took it apart and
sprayed some contact cleaner in the steering pot and she`s been fine ever
since.

Couple of steering things I'd be grateful for some advice on:.

1) I'm currently using a Thrustmaster T2 with GPL. Recently, the T2
has a *** habit of jerking ***ly to the right when driving
straight. This seems to happen once or twice per lap even when I'm
only making minor adjustments to the steering.

The problem has only arisen in the last week - I've had the wheel
about 2 years now, so I guess it might be ageing? The jerks to the
right are even noticeable when trying to calibrate it.

2) ...on that very note (I'm assuming that my T2 is on it's death bed,
though the pedal springs have been replaced recently!)...

Can any of you experts recommend a new steering wheel/ pedals combo
and give me an idea on the price/quality trade off?

Is Force Feedback worth the bother?

Bearing in mind Nascar Racing 1999 is due to ship soon (hopefully), I
think I'll need a device that can clock several thousand miles (at
least). Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Steve

Yep, contact cleaner in the pots will probably sort you out.  If not, TM's new
Super Sport is just coming out now; retail $79 - street $63.   It LOOKS pretty
good; steel steerer shaft, improved pedals, etc.  Checkout TM's website. The
new Logitech wheels look promising as well.  There's a good bit more choice
now.   Can't help you with FF, but I think I'll wait on that one.  When Papy
buys in, maybe.

Seems like a bad pot. Should be easy to replace.

The only non-FF wheel I've tried and liked is the T2. The Mad Catz etc.
are just crappy toys, and even the new RS from Act Labs had too little
resistance.

I had bad experiences with FF sticks, and tried the Saitek wheel with some
*** prejudices, but it actually felt really good, better than T2. I have
my doubts about durability, though. Plus it sucked when not in FF mode (no
resistance, again).

The ACT Labs wheel can shake the entire cabinet that
holds my computer.  Some of the sample FF effects
included with the wheel are especially ***.  As
far as I know, the Force RS produces more force than
any of the other FF wheels on the market.  It
definitely produces more spring tension than any
bungee-equipped wheel I've seen.  More force may
be desirable, but I think there is enough there to
be effective now.

BTW, after trying several different FF titles (CARTPR,
F1RS, SODA), the best implementation of FF I've seen
is in Motorhead.  I'll have to try to get the Viper
demo today and try it.

Buy a FF wheel, it's digital (no pods) so no problems at all!!

However, if you are running NROS, you are SOL.

None of the digital devices will work with Papy's lame joystick drivers
in N2.
