Just wanted to drop a note to all San Diego area racers about a place
called "Speedworld" in the Old Town area(used to be in Santee). It's an
indoor karting track that hosts a league on Tuesday nights from 6:00 pm
to 11:00 pm. If your tired of the state of sim racing right now, or even
if your not, why not give -real- racing a try? I know it's not
"real"race
cars like many of you would like, but it -IS- affordable and -FUN-.
$40 gets you a 5 min warm-up session, 2 six minute qualifying sessions,
and
1 heat race of 5 racers. If you finish in the top 2 in your heat race,
you move to the final against 7 other competitors. That's 4 guaranteed
runs(3 timed runs, and one 10 lap head to head race) with a possible 5th
12 lap head to head race. Points are scored and recorded, and the prizes
for the top 3 are quite impressive. 3rd gets a half day at a true
Karting school, 2nd gets 2 tix to the Marlboro 500 in Fontana, and the
Champion gets airfare, and 2 tix to the inaugural F1 race at Indy.
The season is 15-18 weeks(yet to be finalized), and you get to throw
out
your 2 or 3(depends on how long the season ends up being) worst weeks in
case you have to work, or can't make it for some other reason, it won't
ruin your season. Stop by and check it out one afternoon, or evening and
see if you like the place, then perhaps we'll see you next Tuesday.
Hurry though we had 12 the first week, and 18 last week.

PS--This is not a "commercial", nor do I work for these people. I just
race there and thought it would be cool to get some like-minded
individuals together.
