Huff Disqualified From Sunday's Modified Feature Win
Series of Internet Short Track racing, Matthew
Huff was protested following the race. Huff turned in an incredible 118.953
mph qualifying time, then proceeded to blister the
field in the 25-lap feature.
McKinley made in statement following the Modified
race. "Huff turned in a good qualifying run and an even more unbelievable
feature race speed. We asked him to produce the
required files needed for post-race inspection. He failed to do so, so we had
to take action. I know there have been other
series who have had problems with Matthew. We don't want to discourage him
from racing. We just want him to race under
the same rules that everyone else must race under; not him race under his own
rules."
disqualification, Brian James, of Ajax, Canada, racked
up his first feature win of the series. The Modified division has the most
number of winners so far in the series, with three
different winners in three nights.
Winner in Mods; Embry Grabs Outlaws
the Late Model Stock Car division. Rudi
Kusters travelled all the from the Netherlands to compete in the World Series,
and his travels paid off Monday night. Kusters
put his RaceNet Dodge on the outside of the front row, then led every lap on
his way to the win. Polesitter Jimmy McKinley
got tangled with Butch Hamlett on lap 20, slowing his race and relegating him
to a fifth-place finish. Opening night winner and
third-fastest qualifier Dave Thayer drove to a second-place finish, less than
a second behind Kusters. Chas Bornemann was
third, with Arthur Rymer taking fourth. Patrick Howard had problems and
finished sixth.
proceeded to win from the pole. Bornemann
led all 25 laps on his way to his second victory of the series over McKinley,
Robert Mitchell (who came back after wrecking a
car Sunday and missing the show), New Englander Ryan Turcotte, and last
night's winner, Brian James. McKinley took over
the second spot from Mitchell with only four laps to go, as they dueled to a
bumper-to-bumper finish.
qualifying spot and the win. However, it wasn't
easy as fourth-fastest Kevin Morgan got the jump on Embry, Kevin Crabtree, and
Chris Rhynold at the start, and Embry
chased him down for 24 laps. Morgan powered past the front three on the
outside going into turn one on the first lap. Officials
considered black-flagging Morgan, but after careful scrutinization of the
replay, officials decided that Morgan had not jumped
the start. The race continued until Dave Russell and Tim Kellebrew got tangled
up. On the ensuing green, Jim Oaks and Ian
Eichendorf had problems, causing another yellow. The race went green again,
and Embry took off after Morgan. They battled
side-by-side for two laps before Morgan got the better of Embry until the last
lap. Coming out of turn two for the final time,
Morgan had Embry on his rear bumper. Embry poked the nose of his Embry Auto
Body Chevrolet underneath of the Morgan
number four down the backchute, and the two touched going into turn three.
Embry was on the bottom with Morgan working
the outside. However, the outside lane doesn't work at Southern, and Embry
out-throttled Morgan off of turn four for the win.
Kevin Crabtree, winner the first three nights in the Outlaws, had to watch the
front duo battle for the lead as he just didn't have
the horsepoer to run with the leaders tonight.
around this place," an ecstatic Embry said
in Victory Lane. "And thanks to Embry Air Conditioning and my cousin Darren.
He picked up the tire bill for the rest of this
week, so we should be in real good shape to make a run at Crabtree these last
few nights."
Thayer takes over the point lead with his runner-up
finish Monday night. Rudi Kusters hangs on to third spot, only three points
behind second place Jimmy McKinley. Chas
Bornemann and Arthur Rymer are tied for fourth, while Gary Kendall, Mike
Spinelli, and Patrick Howard round out the LMSC
division. In the Modifieds, Bornemann opens up his lead over Jimmy McKinley,
Ryan Turcotte, and Robert Mitchell. The
Outlaw division sees Kevin Crabtree hold onto the lead, with Chuck Embry
gaining six points on the leader. Kevin Morgan,
Kyle Finney, and Greg Colgan round out the top five.
