GP2: what will it run on?

by Gulliv » Thu, 05 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Hello people:

What is the minimum system anybody has got GP2 to run on?

I have what sounds pretty creaky (486sx33 8Mb), but it runs Terminal
Velocity with pentium detail etc, Duke Nukem 3D nicely in VGA and almost
playable in SVGA. IndyCar 1 goes fine with all detail switched on.

Anybody got GP2 working on a similar system or will I have to upgrade
to a pentium first?

i'm running it (sort of) on a DX2-66 with 12 meg RAM.
at this stage, gp1 runs faster ven with all detail and track texture.

Hehehe....I beat you: I use only 8MB :-)
Works in practice, but no way in race! (p166 on the way over here)

Buy it anyway: it might be fun now, and when you upgrade it's _guaranteed_ to be
fun, and it will feel like you bought a new game.

> Hello people:<snip>
> What is the minimum system anybody has got GP2 to run on?Hello, I am running Gp2 on a 486 dx2-66 (overclocked to 80 mhz), 8mb ram, 1mb video card and am able

to have road surface texture and minimal backround with success. At first I was dissapointed with
this sim but over time have learned to enjoy it very much. The racing will be slow when all the cars
are present (ie.at the start) but soon speeds up substantially as the traffic thins. As a baseline
on my system, Indy Car 1 all detail, fast frame rate, Nascar, all detail except grass texture, and
grandstand texture...running fairly smooth, acceptable frame rate.
I suspect the system I have is the very near the minimum for gp2, even though they suggest dx4-100
as the min. Best of luck. Al.

Don't believe an old 486 33 can do all that? It plays .avi files
full-screen at 640x480x256 15fps too...

The video card is on the motherboard, video throughput is 7964K per second.
Compare a typical Pentium PCI machine with video throughput 4886K per second.

Load univbe 5.1a or 5.2 or 5.3, do a profile on the mode 640x480
True-Color with linear frame buffer then report us the result. Anyway,
7964kb/s is slow.

This is irrelevant as GP2 runs with 8-bit colour, not 24-bit.
