Can you reply to this for me please.

Correct anything i have wrong..

You have a new MS Precision USB wheel.

It has not got a CD with it.

It loads into your Win XP as a wheel but doesnt give you the option to
change to split axis.

You had trouble making it work with GPL but my tip cured that but still you
cant get it to work with GTR 2002.

You have downloaded Laguna for F1 2002 but put it in the Seasons folder
instead of the Seasons/Tracks folder but when you see our reply that will be
sorted.:)

Here is my angle on this :-

1.MS Precision USB wheel ships with the 3.02 software in the UK as standard.

2.The 3.02 software is downloadable.

3.The 3.02 software has more problems with Win XP than the later version
software 4.0.

4.The 4.0 software like the 3.02 software causes Win XP to emit a churlish
'incompatible' cry upon installation, but the fearless and the brave warriors
of the past 'ignored' this and barrelled head first into XP oblivion and
surprisingly came out unscathed and able to 'talk' after the event.Tales of
apparent success filled the forums, others complained of non operative
functions ,but take heed that the screen didnt go blue and the words appear
that delight the scared......

"..Your attempt to install that Microsoft product, namely 3.02 version
software of the Precision wheel has caused a total wiping of your hard
drive, all you had is gone, all you saved is lost, all you cherished has
disappeared.Windows will now restart the computer, but when it does you won't
have an operating system, please make provision to replace this one and in
future do not be stupid enough to pass our warnings of
incompatiblity.....EVER..!!.."

So as you may have realised nothing is logical in computer land, nothing is
ever the same thing twice even though it is to us,if it works today there is
no guarantee it will work tomorrow,if you have set your wheel up in a
certain way now, will it be ok when you switch games....who knows because we
don't,none of us...

To you Tony Jester....my advice is simple,do whatever you feel is withn your
capabilities for future trouble free useage.

Here is my opinion.

1.The MS Precision USB wheel can work on Win XP but a novice like yourself
is not going to be able to keep doing what is needed to keep it working.

2.The price of the MS Sidewinder FF USB is very low now and a return to the
store with receipt and can't get it to work due to the software and o/s
conflicts will allow a swap for the better wheel. Then the 4.0 software can
be installed and all will be ok,because that is what i have here....Win
XP,MS FF usb and v4.0...works perfectly.

3.Do alot of your asking before you purchase because in here is a plethora
of knowledge, mostly Roger Squires and Larry (lol) but some others are very
impressive too.Take advantage of the guys and what they have experienced,i
know i have and have learned alot hence.

4.Good luck :)

Certainly.

Yes, you are wrong on several points.

Wrong.  It came with the 4.0 CD.

change to split axis.

Wrong.  It would not load a certain.LID file.  This ended up being a
defective DVD drive on my machine which I replaced and then everything was
fine.

That is correct.

Wrong.  I put both of them into the Seasons/Track folder

standard.

Well, that may be true in the UK, but as I said above, *mine* came with the
4.0

<snip>

Well, I have to take exception to being labeled a "novice".  In what are you
refering to me as a novice?  Computers?  Not really.  I have been hacking
around with computers since the days of CP/M and 8 inch floppy drives.  Have
you ever even seen and 8 inch floppy, Aidee?  I might add also that I am
quite accomplished at 80x86 assembly language programming, if that means
anything to you.  As for sim racing, the farthest I go back is ICR2.  I got
the GPL demo when that first came out when all we had was Watkins Glen.  I
was there at The Apex when the first guy broke into the 1:06's, but I can't
remember his name at the moment.  I was there that very first Friday evening
when Alison brought VROC online and raced in one of the very first VROC
races.  But that was not all that long ago. Does that still make me a
novice?

Well, I'm glad to at least hear it works.  Now I know.  But I am not
interested in FF.  I have no interest in ever owning a FF wheel.  Seems like
it would be too distracting.  I like to go fast.  My previous wheel was a TM
that I have repaired so many times I have no idea how many pots, pedal
springs and bungees I've replaced.

Um, I thought that was what I was doing...

Thanks.

How about "George Sandman" or "Dave Mansell" but then again it could have been the dreaded "WW"

--
Daytona Beach - Winter Speed Carnival 1903 - 1935

1919 - Ralph DePalma Driving Champion and winner of hundreds of races, sets
new 1 mile record driving 905 cubic inch V-12 Packard on beach at 149.875
mph. DePalma also sets World Records for distances of 2 to 20 miles and
standing mile. His standing mile record of 92.713 mph is unbroken for 36
years.

Right! You remember.  Those were the fast guys.  But as I recall, it wasn't
one of those, it was a British chap whose name I just can't remember.  He
had his own website.  If it comes down to it, I'll have to hunt down the old
hard drive that all that stuff is on.  I believe I still have the replays
from then.

OK how about, Jason Rudgard, Chris Blackburn, Adrian Cox or Rick Prydden?

Ian Lake is another "Hotshoe" that comes to mind, he's not on the Apex listings to much. Mostly saw his name up on the Schubi
Hotlaps or GPL Champions League and he's from New Zealand I believe.

heh, I could of been up on that lap board in August of 1999 for the Glen with a 1:07.21 in the GP1 Ferrari just below 3rd place
Bjorn Nyhlen's 1:06.23.
Remember when no one was driving the Ferrari? Just a sea of green in those days. By the time I was ready to send it in the site was
starting to get backed logged with replays and soon went un-maintained then down.

Haven't been able to improve much on that time in 3 years, but then again I don't commit much time to racing as I did then.

a 1:07.21 in the GP1 Ferrari

A certain Graeme Nash was breaking into the 1:04s in his Ferrari by the time the
IGPS circus got to the Glen in early '99.

Dave Mansell was the king of the GPL demo on the Apex as I recall. He had his
own site at the time - something like "Skunk Racing" or similar.
