improving your slowest speeds?

by Dave Henri » Mon, 15 Jul 2002 15:28:25

I have been hotlapping lately with FIA GT V3 and not having much sucess.
Using the telemetry I compared my best lap to one that was less than 2
seconds faster.  (still well off world record pace) and the biggest
difference seemed to be my slowest speeds around the sharper corners at
Imola.  My top speed and mid range seemed to be fairly close to the other
lap but my lowest speeds were between 5 to 10 mph LOWER than the other
guys....I feel if I try and go any faster on the 90 degree turns then my
back end will come around.
The telemetry program checks for curb cutting so I haven't been very
agressive on the curbs but I just have this fundemental problem carrying
speed through the corners....
Is there anything I should  be concentrating on to adress this?
thankyouverymuch

Have you compared the input graphs?  That's usually the first place I
look.

Hi Dave,
I noticed that you drive a "SanMarino" at San Marino. What kind of car is that :-)

I guess the trick (at least it works for me) to drive around those slow corners is
to use a well balanced throttle input. What I basically mean is to use just enough
throttle to "push" the car gently around the corner. If you apply too much throttle
or too litte then the cars are behaving pretty ***.

If you feel that pushing the car a bit more will lead to a spin, then *maybe*
opening the differential a bit might help.

Good luck,

That is some bug I have.  I left a post for Siphi, he said he would look
into it.  Every track I go to lists the country, not the car.  For the
RECORD, it's the Red, Racing Box Viper GTS-R.  Last I checked, hehehehahah,
I was the WORLD'S Fastest V3 Viper Pilot at Monaco..(probably cuz nobody
else is stoopid enuf to try and manhandle a Viper around Monaco.)
ok...just so I understand the terminology, by opening the diff, do I
increase the # or decrease it?
  thanks

Apparently very few people want to try Monaco at all!
Just ten entries, pathetic ;-)

AFAIK the percentage shown is how much the diff locks, which means you need to
_decrease_ the diff lock percentage. That would allow the inner tyre to slip before
you spin. But too much slip would also overheat your tyre, so be careful.

I drive Monaco constantly, I just think hotlapping is wimpy.

Yeah I prefer a good race over lapping anyday.  That is where the poor
multi just KILLS the ISI products.  I have attempted several small group
races with the FIA mod and each time either I was laggy or there was
somebody out there so slow that the entire experience became a slideshow.  I
had somewhat better luck with the alms mod so I'm guessing I just got
UNlucky those days when I did find somebody hosting.
My times are all over the place.  On TECHNICAL tracks like the
Hungaroring,  I'm not that far off(relatively speaking--this is ME after
all) the pace.  But at some of the faster tracks, I'm just a slug.  I've got
at least 3 tracks where I'm over 10 seconds behind the best times...***y
awful.  So I'm attempting to find out why......FWIW Norbert's hint about the
differential has already knocked a second off My Imola disaster.

Jason,

I fully and wholeheartedly agree!
Unfortunately the GT World Ranking Database is the only thing which allows to
compare laptimes at the moment. Online racing is ... hmmm ... sub-optimal. I just
wish that Simon Phillips would change WRD a bit for the GT 2002 version. For
instance just allow upload of laptimes if one drives at least 5/7/10 consecutive
laps and then upload the average times. Maybe only allow to upload times if those
consecutive laps don't differ more than 3/4/5%.

There are several way to get rid of "just one lucky lap".
