Guillemot Voodoo2 offer

Guillemot Voodoo2 offer

I found an offer on Guillemot's web site for TWO 3D2 12mb cards for a total of
$229 (http://www.racesimcentral.net/).  Being that a friend of mine
just bought one Monster3D2 for $250, I'm a little wary of this offer.  Has
anyone had experience with these Guillemot cards, esp. with GPL???

The price certainly is right, but I'm worried about compatibility and
reliability.  I would appreciate ANY feedback (positive AND negative) from
anyone who has had firsthand experience with these cards.........  My MonsterI
card screams along at about 27-30fps at 800 x 600 with all forward details,
cars only in mirrors, but, boy could I fly with a dual Voodoo2 setup!!!!

I'm using a single Guillemot VD2 card in my P300.  36fps in 800x600
with 19 opponents (down to 25-ish at start).  No problems with
compatibility in any of my games.  Seems amazingly cheap - is it a
mistake?!?

I certainly hope not!!!  So, no driver issues and the like??  Are you running
DirectX6??  If you could as well, please list the other 3D games you've used
this card with.  Thanks again!

All the V2 cards are about to drop in price.  3DFX is really pushing SLI now,
so that will be the common range for a dual card setup regardless of brand.

DirectX6 yes.  Driver issues no.  Other games:

F1RS (1 and 2)
Nascar 2 (3DFX patch obviously)
TOCA
Colin McRae Rally
Unreal
Quake 2

And lots of other older games which I can't be bothered to list ;-)
Ask if you have a specific game in mind.

Michael,
In all that I've read about shopping for Voodoo II's,,,, it seems that
the initial 3dfx board is so well done that very few companies have
changed much on it,,, which should mean that the Guillemot cards would
work just fine. A big Chevy block is still a big Chevy block..
I was all set to buy a Canopus Pure3dII....with it's great reviews,,
but the Guillemot price drop is a little hard to resist, especially
for two! Just make sure your cpu can keep up....
It's really good news overall,

Michael, I had to do the same thing from my wife too.I really laughed out loud
when I read your post.( BTW I called dear old mom and she let me charge it on
her AMEX card and all I have to do is pay her back.) Now how to install the SLI
set up without the wife asking "What are those?"

That is not a problem with me -- my wife never comes into my
computer-guitar-recording stuff room!!  To quote her "it scares me in
there"!!!!
