Raquet ball, golf ball, tennis ball under CH pedal??

by Dolle Do » Sun, 04 Jun 2000 04:00:00

A while ago I read somewhere that putting a golf ball or a raquet ball
or a tennisball or half a tennisball or summat like that under the
brake pedal improves braking because of the progressive resistance.
Can anyone fill me in as on how to do this (and with waht kind of ball
hehe)

I have CH pros.

Cheers

I suppose you could try a golf ball, but they don't give very much.  ;-)

The idea orgininated with half a squash ball, if I'm not mistaken.  I use
half of a raquetball to the same effect.  On my Microsoft pedals, half a
ball folds neatly into the slot under the brake pedal.  You may have to duct
tape it in place or rig something, but that's the idea.

I have a stiff coil spring I found in my garage (I don't play squash). I
have to press the pedal hard (like a car with no servo assistance) to lock
up the brakes. I worried that it my overstrain the pedals but I've seen no
problems.

I did something similar by fastening a wooden wedge on the underside of my
brake pedal with hot glue, then placed a coil spring between the wedge and
the base of the pedal unit. I was worried that the spring would work it's
way out but it's not moved in 4 months of use. One advantage of this method
is the ability to change spring rates in a matter of seconds.

Taking a bit further, I use half a squash ball to make my brakes
workable :-)

Both the springs in the pedal are broken, and with me being too lazy to
send off for new ones, I just put the squash ball in to serve as a
"spring"! If I take the ball out, the pedal is just dead.

Not sure how you'd do it with CH pedals but it's a good modification
which you should definitely try.

I've just got the regular CH pedals and I tried the squashball trick on them
but it was too small so I grabbed a racquetball and jammed it in under the
brake. After playing with it for awhile and finding the exact spot that it
seemed most effective I grabbed the handyman's secret weapon (duct tape) and
wrapped that sucker up so that it can't pop out. It seems to have helped,
I'm not any faster but I don't slide off the track as much because I over
braked (broke?) for a corner. Now I just slide off because I'm a bad driver
:)

Yup, did the same thing with my CH pros.  Racketball stays in place
nicely.  Just wish that I could insert another racket ball hehe.

Indeed I too stay on the track morenow.
