NR2002: What's all this nonsense about "driving style"?

I keep reading posts regarding NR2002 setups...posters invariably say,
"choose the setup that fits your 'driving style' ".  What exactly does
this mean?  Do some people stand on their head and drive with their
feet? Now THAT is a "driving style".

The only "driving style" I'm aware of is to go as fast as you can.
With NR2002, that means loose as a goose: as much grille tape as you
can stand, minimal spoiler, etc. Any setup that causes a push is going
to slow you down, because you have to lift off the throttle to stay
out of the wall (like most of the default "easy" setups). Some people
call this a "style".  I call it "going really slow".  Maybe Shawna
Robinson is using this style.

I like going into the corner either neutral or tight under braking, rolling
through the corner and having a loose car off the corner, other people like
to gun it through the corner in which case they would spin out with my setup
mid corner, thus my setups would not be suitable for them.

Some people brake in some corners and others just lift, again different
setups would not work with that. Some people like to go 100% all the time
and have hard springs for fast lap times, I like soft springs that make the
tyres last longer. Again these setups are not suitable for other drivers.

Try Greger Huttus setups and see if they are good for you.

You just changed the way I look at race car driving, excellent post

I have seen people that love loose setups and can drive them fast while
others cannot and prefer tighter setups.
Also if driving style meant nothing then under fixed setups everyone should
be running near the same speeds but rarely that happens.
It all comes down to what you feel comfortable driving.  It also comes down
to if you like to turn off hot laps early and have high tire wear or go for
a setup that is more consistent over a longer run.

Assuming he can drive that "loose as a goose" setup safely in traffic :)

Provided two things: 1) you can handle this loose of a setup in traffic and
2) you are running in sprint races where pit stops will not be a factor.

Racing is not truly about 'going as fast as you can', but is more of a chess
match. Who's setup is going to allow them to be there at the end and still
be safe and quick enough to contend for a win? That is what racing is about.
More than one time, I can attribute a victory to actually making a correct
change to my setup on a pit stop or two, making me better, putting me out
front with a few laps to go.

Now if you're talking about these 10-20% pickup sprints online, then yeah,
go as fast as you can. Don't come into one of my 40-45% races with that
attitude or you'll likely end up all banged up listed as an 'also ran' at
the end of the day.

All this grill tape and lowered spoiler is going to do is pad your hot lap
stats, it won't likely win you many races.
