Starting from 14th on the grid at Jerez, I have to confess to making a
horrible start and finding myself boxed in and at close to a
standstill at the first corner. However, I managed to get my act
together, and sped put of turn one and towards Curva Michelin when,
quelle horreur (which is not even close to what I actually uttered), I
saw, lying on the track just before the next turn, bits of another car
... a disassembled front wing and another (unidentifiable) component.
Too surprised to apply the necessary brake and steer away (especially
as there were no yellow flags to warn me), I hit the offending bits at
full tilt 'midst a cloud of dust and smoke, and then carried on
through.
I'd never seen this before and was unaware that remote mishaps could
leave the track littered in this way ... what is more, my car handled
awfully for the next couple of laps, 'til I had the presence of mind
to call into the pits to get it "repaired".
An interesting new experience ... I presume I am not alone. A nice
feature, really ... though someone should those marshalls some decent
training.
