Thrustmaster: Big Problems!

I am having big problems getting my new Nascar Pro and my Compaq to get
along! The situation started out poor but it has gotten worse. Now, I can
not even get my computer to acknowledge that there is a wheel plugged into
it. And before, when they were still recognizing each other, I could not
complete the calibration process. I'd get to the step where I was told to
turn the wheel left and right, etc. I'd start to do that, but I could never
finish because the program would just skip ahead to the end of the
calibration process. Any help/ideas/suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks!

Chris,

You should probably try a generic joystick to make sure it isn't your
computer that's confused.  If it works fine, I'd say you have a bad wheel.
Curses!  It may, in fact, be the wheel, because the problem has gotten
worse, and gamecards/gameports don't usually do this progressively.  Wheels
might.

I had problems with my wheel (well, ANY wheel) too, and have since been
unable to solve them.  So what'd I do?  I went to Wal-Mart, and picked up an
UltraRacer PC by InterAct (good God, no flamers, please).  It actually works
quite well (also have one for my Nintendo 64), if a bit uncomfortable, and
since it has a steering trim control, I now have solved my problem (which
was steering pulling to the right on any wheel, any joystick, in any game,
and with or without a gamecard).  The numbers are enough for me...both in
the Lotus...

Watkins Glen (have never tried demo): 1 minute, 7.84 seconds.
Monza (have never tried demo): 1 minute, 31.40 seconds (still have a bit of
work to do).

Contact Thrustmaster and don't buy a com***computer again. Thrustmaster
has always been very good with support.

Peace!

1)  Make sure you have ProPanel installed and that your NASCAR Pro is
device ID #1

2)  Make sure your soundcard/game controller port has the I/O address of
201-201

3)  Run TMScope in a DOS box and check the wheel there.  If the buttons,
shifters, wheel and pedals all seem to respond correctly, you have a
problem with your Win9x setup.  Try removing your soundcard from the
Device Manger and re-installing it.  If TMScope shows that the buttons
are always on or don't work or that the wheel and pedals don't respond
and your sound card is configured properly contact TM tech support.

sounds like a button might be stuck?  Before I try again, I would install
propanel, and reinstall the drivers for the sound card or joystick card,
whichever you are using.  Sometimes reinstalling directx will help as well.
