Overstocked with V3's, 3dfx has no choice but to hype it as much as possible
while they delay V4 until March 2000.  Notice that the original source of
the information was a press release on PRNewswire from 3dfx themselves...

3dfx reported the figures
BIG WHOOP.
You're taking it for granted that the 3dfx isn't lying!
for all we know they have 40% of the market share and they're just BSing
I'm ont saying they are
but its a possibility
P.S.
I prefer riva tnt 2
but I still think the v3 is a good card, especially for its D3D support

What's the difference? Is this a brand loyalty thing?
I can sort of understand it with cars, moreso with motorcycles, and
definitely with beer, but video cards? C'mon...
It reeks of pocket protectors and taped up glasses. =8^/

Fair enough. I didn't read that ponderous thread, but I do remember
it.

if i remember correctly about the only valid arguements they had about the
data were:
1) I believe that the PCData numbers are for Retail only....not OEM
2) 3dfx has only one board maker to deal with STB.....*ALL* of their sales
are under the STB brand name...with the TNT2(U), you have a bunch of board
makers and the sales are split amongst them all......(Counterargument to #2,
i really doubt if you combine all the TNT2 sales they would beat the total
of the V3 sales).

BTW did you see those unimpressive GeeWhizForce benchmarks?

yea........

To me hardware sales are sort of similar to flight-sim sales.  For all those
*** who love EAW or F-15 or F4.0 sim wise alot of them are shocked to
find out that Novalogic type sims kick their ass in the marketplace.  For
all of those *** hardware nuts who thinks that the TNT2 or GSpotForce
is the greatest thing since sliced bread will either run with their tails
between their legs or vehemently run around with their hands over their ears
when they hear that the V3 has been kicking their ass in card sales.

My prediction? The V3 PCI card will outsell the GeeWhizForce from its
release date till the beginning of the year.  Why? 1) they aint got no AGP
slot.....2) sub $100 video cards are a hell of alot more attractive than a
$200-250 vid card.  3) name recognition....ppl had a Voodoo card for their
first accel card, the commercials worked, "3dfx" and "Voodoo" sound alot
cooler than "G-Force" or "Nvidia"

There are millions of people out there who have never heard of a "Quake3
benchmark", or "Transformation and Lighting"......but they do remember those
stupid 3dfx commercials :)
