hey dave, noticed that the oesterreichring track has more grip than Brands
Hatch, how come ? <vbg>

Serious: this track is more than just another Add-On. One of the best,
including the original ones. If you own GPL, get this track. I would pay for
this stuff dave <hint, hint>.

I just downloaded the new track, and it is great !!
It has many tricky corners and it is a great challenge to drive.

I would like to thank Mr Noonan for another great track, i think one of the
best.
I agree with others in this newsgroup that I would pay for this stuff.

If Mr Noonan would make a trackpack that would cost $60 I would buy it
immediately.

BTW, does anyone know if the N3 Indyanapolis track for GPL with AI is
already available ?

Thanx,

Remco

I've noticed that all the N2/3/ICR2 tracks are more predictable in grip
as opposed to any of the original GPL tracks.  There are places where I
shouldn't loose traction but not only do I loose it, I loose ALL
traction on those tracks.  Just small spots here and there.  The only
places I loose traction on the converted tracks and the new tracks is
where I over drive or where I go off the tracks.

I do have one problem with the new track though.  Maybe it's my
system(?).  On all the tracks I can have a lot of graphics on (not all,
but a lot) and still have 36 fps.  This new track I had to turn the
mirrors back to "cars only" and cut a lot of the other graphics off in
order to have between 33 and 36 fps. I went off line and switched on and
off different graphics for about an hour till I found just the right
combination.  Now I get 36 fps but in the left hand turns it drops down
to 20 - 24 fps.

After doing all this, It was the mirrors that killed my frame rate even
with "everything" turned off and at the lowest res.  Is there some kind
of a connection between the mirrors and FPS on this track specifically?
I can have "cars and track" on all the other tracks.  Is there something
different about this  track that would hog the frame rate this bad?

I checked all the other tracks just now to be sure it wasn't my
machine.  It's only at this track where I have to turn most everything
off in order to get the magic 36 fps, but even then there's spots where
the frame rate drops badly.

I noticed a slight drain but nothing drastic.  What CPU and video card do you
have?  I have a V3 2k and a P2 300 so i have a fairly fast machine.  I was
getting 33+ fps all the time at the O'ring with my normal graphics settings but
I havent tried running a race yet.  Thats definately an interresting problem
you got there...

I wouldn't be surprised. Brands Hatch is a CPU hog too - more so than the
original tracks (on my system anyway). Oh well, small price to pay. Now if
you'll excuse me, I'm off to Austria again...

You people are starting to***me off! As I am at work and unable to

I agree, this track is awesome..... I fell in love with it after only two
laps...
I only have a 2.02 at the mo... but there is loads of scope... beautiful
drifting sweepers that just beg to hang that tail out ;-)  WOW!!!
Send that David Noonan a pile of thankyou's...  if we can't send him dosh!

Hi Michael,

Indeed i did experience the same thing when i hosted one race there. Then i
joined another server afterward, and the fps were much better almost at 36
all the time. I also noticed fps drops where they were "picket fence" most
of the time. I'll have a better idea with more than 10 pilots on that track.

Sure is a nice one, on par with the best of them.

Thank you Mr. Noonan, sir.

Christian.

Hehe, really cool place to work for a simmer, any chance for a Swede to
get a testride? ;)

I'm not authorized to give testrides yet :P As a matter of fact, even if I
am a simmer, I don't work on simulator-projects, because they are very
focues on driving behaviour. So for now only some people with psychology
education are working with it. I'm an engineer and have to do other stuff
like traffic planning, of course very interesting stuff too.

When we get the softwarepackage to make new scenery for it, I have been
promised that I will get the work of making them  :))))

What tragedy that psychologiests (sp?) is the only guys to use such
awsome equipment, but then again, if you were able to use it after
hours, you wouldn't get so much GPL time :)
A superb ride would obviously be to be able to run GPL on that equip!!

Btw, is it possible to change the engine/suspension parameters easily,
it would be nice to be able to change from the standard Megane on the
pics to a Megane Coupe GTi with just some quick software changes.

/Regards Stefan

Well, not only psychologiests (sp? again:), right now students in traffic
management is using it. In the long term it will be used to evaluate new
roads, so that stupid designmistakes can be found before it is built. And
guess who will take part in that :))

It's been discussed a lot already. It should be quite easy since the
projectors are using SVGA. But i think it has to be run on other computers
since the Onyx doesn't run GPL very well. We are discussing a research
experiment with driving abilites after heavy drinking. This would be a
great social event, and if we are going to do it I will also install
my computer with GPL in the room next to the simulator so that people
could try how it really should be done.

No, that is the biggest drawback of the system. The physics model is made
by Renault, and they protect their technology very good. I guess it is as
easy to change car-parametres in our simulator as it is in GPL. Not much
chance in other words.

It'd make great shareware. Doubt it'd make Dave rich (shareware never
does... well, ok, except for Doom :-) but it'd be better than nowt.

Alexander,

I thought the samething. So after running a few dozen laps at
Oesterreichring in my ferrari, I went back to Brands Hatch. And low and
behold, I found the grip to be exactly the same. What I found different was
that I wasn't over driving the corners like I did before. Turned my PB at
1:40.xx, with a 1/2 dozen laps in the 1:41s.
