What DO long distance costs in America cost? Nascar M.P.

Having seen all the complaint's .... nay, worries is a better choice
of word I think, regarding the cost of LongDistance calls to the new
Papyrus open beta test of the multiplayer Nascar, I was wondering just
what the cost is exactly?

That's if you're in America of course, and perhaps it varies depending
on your location. Whatever, I'd like to know what our US friends
consider to be an expensive phone call!!!

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi Stuart!

Well, I don't know what the American's consider expensive, but I'll tell
you how it affects us miserly Scots the next time my bill arrives. I was
only on for an hour.....

Even if it's only once - TRY IT! I'm struggling with my will-power not
to call again....

Cheers!
John

An HOUR?! 'kin' hell! At about 50p a minute to New Zealand (the only
international call I know the cost of), that is a SCARY amount of
money. It really hadn't entered my head that anybody in the UK might
just try it out.

Perhaps I will get some practise at Nascar in after all.

And then maybe I'd better not. Oh dear. Dilemma.

Guys,

I did some research into cheap international calls hoping to improve my Hawaii
connection rate and I found a company called Worldcom. If your phone bill is
regularly over 300 pounds, they can offer you international calls at 19.9 pence
per minute compared to BT`s 38 pence off-peak rate. I guess they`re looking for
businesses as a whole but I was told they accept domestic accounts if the phone
bill is high enough.

Well, I'm paying 10 cents a minute, which comes out to $6 an hour and I
think *that's* too expensive.  Trying to keep myself to $50 a month might
be tough <g>.........

From what I've heard, MCI may have the best deal.  After 5pm, MCI is 10
cents per minute out-of-state, plus they give discounts when you spend
$25 and more discounts when you spend $35.  With HAWAII you're
definitely going to spend $35.  With the biggest discounts, I think it
comes to about .08 per minute

AT&T is the worst.  The cheapest you'll get is .13 per minute.  And
that's after 11pm if you spend $25.

WorldCom is a flat .10 per minute with no discounts.  That's what I have
now.

Not true.  First, if you switch to AT&T, they will give you a $100 check (not phone
credit).  Secondly, for the first six months you will receive 40% off of your total
bill (after spending a minimum of $25) making it just as cheap as any of the other
services.  After the six months, it switches back to the regular 25% off.
Considering that within six months the local access methods will be resolved AT&T
is a very viable long distance option for the short turn.
