Custom pcx's and Copyright's

Is it really possible to copyright a custom car .pcx file?  I have been
seeing alot on webpages lately about how the pages are copyrighted and the
car .pcx's are copyrighted (Racing Headquarters comes to mind), but why
would anyone bother.  And how can you steal an image, say the nationally
known Target logo, paste it on a car, and say that's your design?  How
would you even go about copyrighting webpages or cars?

Of course. Copyright is automatic when creating any original work. (see
Brad Templeton's FAQ posted regularly to news.announce.newusers for
more)

As for infringing on those companies' trademarks, that's another issue
entirely; one which I can't get into...

"If it doesn't have a copyright notice, it's not copyrighted.

This was true in the past, but today almost all major nations follow
the Berne copyright convention. For example, in the USA, almost
everything created privately and originally after April 1, 1989 is
copyrighted and protected whether it has a notice or not."
