By "single player"...you mean off-line and aginst AI?
If so, just press the [Pause Break] key.

I thought GPL was so realistic that it was unthinkable that it was possible
to pause the game while in a race... so I haven't even tried the pause key.

Biggest joke of the day has hereby been delivered by me :-))))
Anyway it worked....

Nah, pause is good but I always hit F2 for instant replay. It pauses the
game and you get some lap info (last lap and fastest so far) in the bargain.
And it's easier to hit IMO.
