ECTS - Any questions?

by Rehan Al » Sun, 02 Sep 2001 06:09:40

Just a quick note from a long-time lurker from one of the games sites -
I'm going to be at ECTS on Sunday and I'm scheduled to meet up with the
Jowood (Rally Trophy) and Microids (Master Rallye) people. If you peeps
have any questions you'd like me to put forward, stick them here or let

newsgroup when I get back.

I hope this is of some interest. : )

Yours,

Rehan

Ask about how the physics is done - is it real-time calculations - or look
up tables etc

Dont let them fool you with "We believe it's the most realistic handling to
date" - because thats always pure BS.

Can someone give me a quick background on how sim physics are done? That
way I could try and probe the physics a little deeper. Feel free to go a
little techy, but I don't have the time to read any extensive
documentation on the subject.

Well - GPL and N4 use forces, and algorythms that actually calculate on the
fly the way the car is supposed to handle.

The suspension geometry is simulated in real time - and as a result - setup
changes work the way they should - the cars handle the way they should etc.

Most other titles just simulate that - using a very simplified algorythm
thats basically..

Corner is X tight - Setup is Y = You will spin above Z
