gis points are valid, I think. How hard would it be to add a stats
screen with a couple of dropdowns (track, car, difficulty, whatever)
to the menu, with track stats saved to a ***y text file? Might take
an intern a day or two, but it's surely no biggie. Put all of that
into an
#ifdef THEY_MAKE_ME_RUN_ON_CRUMMY_WINDOZE_YIKES
...
#endif
block, and all is fine. Really no further black magic required there.
And with the
attention to detail that SCi has shown for the physics, they *must*
have known that this game will stay with the community for a couple of
years.
Things like this add to the longevity of a title. We could never have
created gplrank (or any of the other ranks for that matter) had Papy
not created an "open" interface for us to use. How cool would it be if
we could have a handicap-based ranking system for RBR which requires
no more than uploading a text file to RBRank? I guess we could
integrate that into the existing gplrank infrastructure within a week
or two, but no, they chose differently and probably had their reasons
(which elude me totally).
cheers,
uwe

What are you saying here? That beta testers wanted it? That there
was no time since they needed to port it to the console? If you're
being critical of the post then I don't understand why you wouldn't
want to be able to see WTF your progress has been. I also think an
easier replay save mechanism should have been implemented to have you
append your initials or whatever to the stagename.cartype. We could
then more easily have a rank ala gplrank by car and stage.
