Can anyone explain to me how to add a set of pedals to my MS PP
stick?  Is there a web site that a) explains how to do this and
b) explains how to make your own pedals?

Is it possible just to buy pedals without a wheel?

You could buy some CH Pedals.  I use them with my LWFF in GPL and they are
excellent, far superior to the original pedals.

They can be used together with a joystick or wheel.  In Windows, I set up a
controller using the CH Flightstck Pro driver which combines a joystick with
the CH Pedals to give split axis pedal support.

You can find details of the pedals here:

Hope this helps.

Cheers

To answer your last question, no, I don't think this
is possible.  I asked Logitech that question on the phone
about their pedals and they said no.  Also, most of the pedals
I've seen in the store have a small (possibly 5-pin?) cord
which you plug into the wheel unit, which then plugs into
the game port using a standard (15-pin?) connector. So you'd
have to do some h/w modifications, or at least get an adapter.

I have been toying with this too (stick/pedals) since I don't
really have room for a wheel.

So I ordered the CH Products Pro Pedals USB (www.chproducts.com)
to go with my Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D joystick.
The stick and the pedals will each plug into their own USB port.
The CH products tech support told me this should work
on games which support 2 joysticks (e.g. Nascar 3).
Also they are developing a driver to allow this sort
of combo to work for games which support only one joystick.
So just maybe it will work with Dirt Track Racing one day.
I don't know about GPL.

I also like that I can do flight sims with this setup too.
I figure future games will support 2 joysticks as a baseline
but this might be a bad guess.

I tried an experiment where I put my Logitech joystick
in the USB port, and an old Interact FX racing wheel
in the game port.  I was able to configure N3 to work
with this, where the joystick provided steering, and the
racing wheel provided gas and brakes, dual-axis.  So I think
games like N3 would work with a USB joystick and any
old set of pedals in the gameport.  But this setup did
not work in Dirt Track Racing; it looks only for joystick 1.
It ignored the FX racing wheel in the second joystick slot
(under windows settings/game controllers).

One thing, the CH products tech support told me I'd need
the USB pedals to pair with a USB joystick.  Couldn't use
the gameport pedals with USB stick.  Also CH products
is coming out with a USB version of their non-Pro pedals.

Try http://www.gunpowder.freeserve.co.uk/wheels for details on building a
wheel setup - also includes pedals and wiring diagrams which you could
adapt.

This is about the 3rd or 4th post stating that Nascar 3 will work with 2
controllers at the smae time, like GPL.  I've gotten GPL to recognize
both my LWFF and TSW pedals, but have not gotten this configuration to
work in Nascar 3.

Control Panel has TSW on ID 1 and LWFF in ID 2.  I'm using Win95 OSR2
and the LWFF is connected thru the serial port (not USB).  As I say,
this works fine in GPL, but not in Nascar 3.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Same here only I've got the LWFF as ID 1 and the CH Pedals as ID 2.  I'd
really like to use the CH Pedals in N3 and RC2000 as well as in GPL as they
are far superior.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you don't mind spending a few dollars, these pedals are probably the
best you can get, period

http://www.wave.co.nz/pages/lakewood/Redline2.htm

He also makes a switchbox to make them separate or combined and an
adapter to fit most wheels, bought mine some 6 months ago, love 'em,
especially for GPL, that brake pedal system is something else, I bought
just the pedals and combined them with my homemade wheel

Beers and cheers

I guess you can buy alot of LWFF-pedals from the guys around here <vbg>

It should be possible to connect some stand-alone pedals to the serial port.
I've seen a webpage about that before but don't have the address, sorry.

a small, friendly piece of advice for people who are planning
to cut/hack/solder to join pedals/wheels/joysticks together:

Unplug stuff from the joystick port first!!

i didn't, and accidentally sent 5volts somewhere it shouldn't have
been, rendering my joystick port useless. (sound still worked ok
though.)

had to replace the card...

stupid stupid stupid martin.

Pedal Questions

Summary:  CH Pro Pedals work with Logitech stick in N3!

Okay, got my CH Pro Pedals USB yesterday.  Plugged
them into USB port 2.  My Logitech Wingman Extreme
Digital 3D joystick was already in port 1.

Installed the drivers, etc.  Now I have the following
under Device Manager in this order:

1. CH Pro Pedals
2. Creative SB Live
3. HID-compliant (came with pedals)
4. Logitech HID
5. Logitech USB

I calibrated the pedals and checked out settings/
control panels/game controllers.  Stick in ID 1,
pedals in ID 2.

Started N3.  Opened Options.  Calibrate joystick 1.
It is the left-right-up-down of my stick.  Okay
now time for the big test.  Calibrate joystick 2.
Pedals NOT detected; instead throttle/twist from my
stick is detected (even though the stick is ID 1!).

Okay.  Quit out of Nascar 3 and go into settings/control
panels/game controllers/advanced.  Swap stick to ID3,
then pedals to ID1, then stick to ID2.

Back into Nascar 3.  Options, calibrate joystick 1.
It is my pedals - they are detected.  Calibrate
joystick 2.  It is left-right of stick (up-down not
detected for some reason, but I don't  need up-down
if the pedals work). So both stick and pedals are
detected.

Assign various functions - test drive - success!!!

But the remaining problem is my main joystick
is now in ID 2.  So if I enter a game such as
Dirt Track Racing which supports 1 joystick only,
then it sees my pedals as the joystick.  Not very
useful.  So my Nascar3 workaround is to swap
the joystick IDs.

I hope this is just a Nascar 3 thing.  I would
hope other games would see joystick 1 as the joystick
in ID 1, and joystick 2 as the pedals in ID 2.
As it is, I can't use joystick/pedals in any game
which supports one joystick only.

CH products is coming up with a driver to allow
separate joystick and pedals to use just one
joystick ID.  That might help if if works with
the Logitech Wingman.  If not I might buy a CH
stick someday... we'll see.
