Hi Chris,
No pits, short races, and fake fantasy tracks seem, to me, to be a
preference that VR just doesn't fill for you. Understandable.
What do you mean by lack of 'environment'? Just curious. I've heard
people refer to the surroundings as "sparse", which is true. But hey,
when I played N1 on my 486/50, there were times that I turned off all
graphics but the track and walls to get a good frame rate. Talk about
fantasy, I drove tracks suspended in space. ;) In spite of that fact,
I had a great time with it. I don't really care what the surroundings
look like, to be honest; that's way down at the bottom of my sim
priority list.
As for "hornball", "airplanes", etc., I guess I just don't get it.
Why would these things ruin the game for you? They are optional. You
turn them on, you turn them off. I have no desire to use them, or
defend anyone else's use of them. But it surely doesn't bother me in
any way, shape, or form that they are there. Heck I'm a wimp too -- I
drive with auto clutch enabled. ;)
Would you care if GPL had a "hornball"? I surely would not. Just as
I do in VR, I would turn it off, and enjoy an excellent sim for what
it is.
Bottom line for me is, if the developer wants to put every gimmick,
aid, cheat, or whatever in a sim, then fine. As long as I can drive
the sim the way I wish, I couldn't care less how other people are
getting their jollies from the same sim. Even as goofy as their
methods may be. :)
I understand your point that the sum of the quote below is what ruined
VR for you, not any single weak point. But how can one consider an
option as a weak point? I want all the options I can get in a sim.
...and in my computer, and car, and house, and life. Options, to me
are a good thing, even if some of them aren't great options.
