Why is steering in ICR a lot harder than in F1GP(WC)?

I guess that the steering help in F1GP makes it easier, but in what way?  I know that it pulls you into the pits, but on some corners it seems like the computer is doing the steering.
I've also noticed that when you turn in ICR, the wheels turn gradually towards the direction, but when you let go the wheels centre straight-away which i guess is why it is so hard.

And whats the difference between linear and non-linear steering in ICR?

I played F1GP for about a year and a half, and just last month I finally bought
ICR.  I've been playing ICR quite a bit in the last month.  To do a comparison,
I played F1GP again the other night.  It seemed like the car was on rails!
I didn't think steering help helped that much until I got good at ICR.

Likewise!!

Now for the fun stuff: if you have the joystick to do it, try going BACK to F1GP
and turn steering help OFF! I have tried this in my more adventurous moments
and TRASHED the car EVERY TIME!!

I think it has a lot to do with the unbelievable frame rate that F1GP has
compared to ICR (graphics and AI not nearly as good, though). It makes
the ICR joystick routines seem really amazing!

Just my R0.02 worth.

I quite agree. I don't have ICR (I've played it though) but I do have
F1GP. My brother had a quick shot at it and the first thing he said was
"have you put the auto-steering on?". It's a shame, because apart from
that it's still a good game.

...actually the amazing people who wrote World Circuit (F1GP)
designed the unaided (steering help OFF) joystick input to
handle input from a device capable of 400% of lock-to-lock
turning - in otherwords a wheel device that works like a real
car steering wheel. All I can say is that they must have made
their own steering wheels because you can not buy such a thing
on the market (to my knowledge). I heartily approve of this
ballsy move - they obviously expect that at least some of their
customers will have the brains, initiative, and interest to go
out and build their own steering wheel-joysticks.

Its nice when software is designed to leave room for everyone's
tastes and is not simply aimed at the lowest common denominator.

I, however, am the lowest common denominator, and so have not
as yet attempted to build such an input device. ICR has given me
a taste for more steering control and to rejunvenate my interest
in World Circuit (the tracks are so great) I need to move on to
this new level. Has anyone out there succesfully created a steering
device who would be willing to share the plans with us?

How big a lock does the Thrustmaster T1 have?  I'm planning on getting
one of these beasties RSN but I'll be a little disappointed if it
still isn't enough to player F1GP without steering help.

About 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock, with very solid and precise centering.

On the subject of the F1, can someone tell me what they have done to keep
the pedals from coming loose as they seem to do?  It seems that the
side thrust force I am placing on the brake pedal causes it to
come loose quite often after only a little bit of use.  I believe it
only happens on the brake pedal because on the throttle, my foot is
"straight-on", that is, I'm not giving any side force...  Any ideas?

I double foot it. Left foot brake, right loud pedal. Less side stress. If
they ever release a sim with a clutch, I'll do a NASCAR dance.

Here's what I did.  Remove the nut the holds the
brake pedal/wheel to the metal brake lever.
Remove the pedal/wheel and insert them through the
metal lever from the other side (i.e., entering in
from the left side).  Reattach the nut, tighten,
and voila!  You have a brake pedal that is spaced
further away from the throttle pedal.

Well, I use my left foot for braking and found that taking the
wheel/roller off and putting it on the left side of the bracket gives me
better control of the brake pedal (more room to get my foot on the
pedal).  This also allows me to use both feet to control trail-braking
through those tough corners.
