Racer - People wouldn't know a good thing if it kicked them in the arse!!

Just read Ruud's piece 'The Plan' on his site, I think that it has
been unfortunate the amount of heat that he has been getting on his
forum and on R.A.S.

Yes, Racer is not yet complete but it is a highly interesting project.
If you want to play GPL, stop whining and go and play GPL!

All I can say is that I know where he is coming from and think that he
has been incredibly brave to have been releasing the source code so
far, I personally hope that he does continue to make the source
available, it is interesting to see how he has been approaching the
various puzzles that are simulators.

I have said this before but here goes again, good luck in the future,
good things will come to he that has patience.

Hey Colin,

it looks like you're mixing up your "GPL"'s here! ;-) Ruud's plan is
on about the game not being "GPL"'ed, as in "GNU general public
license", not as in "Grand Prix Legends". Some zealot(s) on
tuxgames.org gave Ruud shit for not GPL'ing the racer source, which is
again quite different from "open source".

I too would like to thank Ruud for releasing the source, it helped
immensely in getting a half-decent linux version out in a timely
manner.

Cheers,

uwe

Thanks for the support, Colin. Actually, it was some comments on
HappyPenguin.org about the non-GPL (GNU public license) nature of the
source and to boycot Racer until it is GPL.
Perhaps for some people this hasn't been clear, and those people might
not have looked at the source, so hopefully this will be more clear in
the future (it is NOT OpenSource). It's my pet project and I like
adding things to it still, so a call to release the program's source
to be worked on by other developers on SourceForge under GPL license
is out of the question. I also think that would bring in too many
potential problems by people who are just starting with the source,
introducing bugs (as if there aren't enough already ;-) ) without
intent. And if there's one thing I hate it's debugging.

Fortunately, I can say in general people are very enthusiastic about
the project, but it seems releasing the code makes people think they
suddenly have the right to consider this OpenSource and otherwise it
must be banned. While it's for free. Some people have weird ways of
thinking.

I will still release the source code, although in a less easy to find
place, and with banners, warnings and fences around it, lol, to warn
about the use of it.

Well Mr Ruud sir...what you are doing is remarkable and at least from this
forum I have heard only good things.  Do with it as you will.  Let the
tiny-minded boycotters find another sandbox to play in.  Good Luck...great
work.

Well, if people would stop using anacronyms things wouldn't be so
confusing would it. :-)

Anyway, erm, racer still rocks ....
